Xander Schauffele becomes Players Championship leader
In the final round with Wyndham Clark, Xander Schauffele took advantage of an error by his compatriot with a ball in the water on hole 17, to take the sole lead of The Players Championship. They will meet for the last round in the last part and will each try to win a victory in this tournament called the 5th major. Brian Harman, signing the best card of this Saturday with a 64 (-8), took advantage of the moving day to move back into 3rd position, two shots behind the leader. Scottie Scheffler, world number 1, will be in the leading groups this Sunday: he is 6th, five shots behind Schauffele.
The suspense is at its height for this 2024 edition of the Players. The top three men are within three shots and will try to grab the title on the TPC Sawgrass. It is Xander Schauffele who will start with the role of leader at -17. The American, in the last game on Saturday, once again played 65 (-7) without any bogey (he had already played 65 in the first round and was co-leader).
He stole this leading position from his compatriot Wyndham Clark, recent winner at Pebble Beach and defending champion of the US Open. Clark was co-leader at the start of the 17th before conceding a stroke on the course with a scratch on his put in. Showing mental strength, he saved the bogey to place himself just one shot from the lead before the start of the last round.

Brian Harman, also the holder of a major title, since he won the last The Open, is back in a good position with the best card of the tournament: 64 (-8), nine birdies for one bogey.
Although far behind, we find some good people in the top 15 with Matt Fitzpatrick 4th, Scottie Scheffler 6th and Ludvig Aberg and Rory McIlroy 12th. Too bad once again for the Northern Irishman who makes big errors on each round (already three double bogeys).
As a reminder, Matthieu Pavon did not make the cut after a card of 77 (+5) on Friday. This is the first missed cut for the French number 1 this season.
