The Jameson Golf Links (in the old days Portmarnock Links) were presented during a launch ceremony which brought together golf players, journalists and local personalities on Tuesday October 3.

The rebranding follows the multi-million euro renovation of Bernhard Langer's original 1995 design, orchestrated by Jeff Lynch, director and principal architect of (re)GOLF, and his team on a site inextricably linked to the famous golf dynasty jameson whiskey a family who played a key role in introducing the public to golf in Ireland.

In 1850 years John jameson built his own private course on the site, which would have been used by his friends and family visiting from Scotland. Three of the Jamesons, including John, rest in the cemetery to the right of the first hole, and the old family home St Marnocks now part of Portmarnock Resort, Dublin's only seaside resort.

Improvements to the course include the ambitious elevation of the greens and tees from the eighth hole to its breathtaking final stretch. Visitors can now marvel at postcard views of the beach Velvet Strand of Portmarnock, the Dublin city skyline and the famous uninhabited island known asIreland's Eye which welcomes visitors as they land at nearby Dublin Airport.

Paul McCanny, Director of Golf at Portmarnock Resort, said: “We are absolutely delighted to relaunch our world-class golf offering as Jameson Golf Links at Portmarnock Resort, as well as our on-site hotel brand as the Portmarnock Resort. Ireland is a world-renowned golf destination and we are proud to offer Dublin's only coastal golf and resort, just a few miles from the capital's international airport. »

“With an exciting new brand and a reinvigorated course, we look forward to welcoming golfers from all over the world to stay at Portmarnock Resort and enjoy this incredible stretch of golf-rich coastline.” »

The rearrangement of certain holes resulted in several significant changes to the last ten holes. The eighth, which was previously a dog-legged, was transformed into a straighter par four thanks to the construction of a new fairway, a green complex and grass fairways, as well as the relocation of an irrigation lake which has considerably increased the course's water collection capacities and its sustainable development credentials.

The 12th and 14th holes, previously par fours, have been redesigned as par fives, with the elevated green of the first offering an incredible view of Velvet Strand, Howth Head, Lambay et Ireland's Eye.

Between these new par fives, 13, which was a par five, is now a very difficult par four, becoming the first shot index on the course. The 15th has been shortened from a par four to a par three, and there are plans to transform the 17th from a par three to a par four in early 2024 to provide another birdie opportunity on the final holes.

The course modifications also resulted in the creation of a new on-course beverage and snack service, located near the eighth, ninth, fourteenth and fifteenth holes.

Away from the golf course, visitors to the new-look Portmarnock Resort will also discover a newly renovated, award-winning hotel, which combines modern elegance with a fascinating history, epitomized by the quaint Irish charm of its famous Jameson Bar which, in 2022, was rewarded during the Icons of Whiskey Ireland Hotel Bar of the Year Awards (hotel of the year award).

Mitch Gaglardi, general manager of Sandman Hotel Group UK & Ireland, said: “We have invested heavily in Portmarnock Resort and Jameson Golf Links over recent years, to create an unrivaled experience of staying and playing golf along this great stretch of the Dublin coastline.

“It was an honor and privilege to welcome dignitaries and members of the media and golf community to our launch event, and I would like to thank the team at Portmarnock Resort for their assistance on the field in order to make this launch a success. »

Due to its location, the resort 30 minutes from the heart of Dublin provides an ideal base for golfers keen to explore the vast array of world-class courses located along Dublin's North Shore, including Portmarnock Golf Club, The Island and Royal Dublin.
