Pavon 37th, the favorites are present at Sawgrass
The Major Fifth is here and so are the favorites! After the first round of the Players on the TPC Sawgrass, we find the big names in world golf in the lead: Rory McIlroy, Wyndham Clark and Xander Schauffele are at -7, closely followed by players like Fitzpatrick, Scheffler and Aberg. Matthieu Pavon for his first day is in the game thanks to a little magic on hole 16, a nice draw for the eagle. Despite a few errors, the Frenchman drove well and responded to the elite of world golf.
It's the week everyone has been waiting for! The 50th edition of the Players Championship is launched! On the sumptuous TPC Sawgrass course, the best players in the world pulled out all the stops to avoid the numerous traps and water obstacles on the course. After the first round, Rory McIlroy, Wyndham Clark and Xander Schauffele share the lead at -7. Obviously, if they are leaders, these three men are in good shape, but a special mention can be given to the 2019 winner Northern Irish who scores 10 birdies for a double bogey and a bogey.

Behind the three leading men, many title contenders are perfectly placed on the leaderboard with among others Matt Fitzpatrick (4th), Scottie Scheffler and Ludvig Aberg (6th) and Max Homa (13th). Regardless, each of its players will have to do their part and tame the Sawgrass greens which will get faster as the days go by.
Quite a day for New Zealander Ryan Fox who followed up an eagle at 16 with a hole in 1 on the legendary par three of hole 17!

Matthieu Pavon is in the mix after the first day. With a card of 70 (-2), the Bordelais is five shots behind the leaders after a day mastered on the throws. Contrary to his habits, Pavon let a few points slip away on the greens: “I had some hard to find the speed of the greens,” he admitted after his round. He ranks 37th.
