It is one of nine courses designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr in mainland France. La Grande Motte golf course with its 42 holes is a beautiful walk, suitable for all levels of play.

  • The Grande Motte golf course
No. 5, the signature hole of the Grande Motte golf course.
For a bit, it almost feels like Florida west of the Camargue, minus the crocodiles. Designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr, the man with 500 golf courses, the Grande Motte course and its 20 hectares of ponds scattered over the 100 hectares of the land exhales the scent of 18 American holes. Or rather 42 holes because there is something here for all tastes… and especially the levels of play. The par 72 “les Flamands Roses”, host of a European circuit tournament in 1989 and 1990 (the AGF Open) , alongside “les Goélands”, a par 58 intended for larger indexes, as well as a 6-hole pitch & putt, ideal for children or beginners.

« It's a journey flat, which is not tiring, underlines the director, Jean-Christophe Matthieu. It is pleasant to play all year round because there is a little breeze in summer, when it is hot. " Hole 5, a short par 3 surrounded by a pond, offers a first thrill, as does hole 7, a par 5 of 507 m of white balls (438 m of blue) with water all the way to starboard. As for the white sand bunkers on the course, they are so smooth that you are almost happy to bury your ball.

La Grande Motte is also a beautiful promenade, often sunny, where your swing is observed by spectators like no other. “You will come across a lot of animals on the parcoursconfirms Jean-Christophe Matthieu. Chickadee niches in the trees, flamands roses, swans, ducks of different species ... You can also find yourself face to face with a goose or a peacock on the fairway. " Birdie, eagle, albatross ... in the end, aren't our animal friends always part of our favorite game?

WHERE TO STAY?

In Grau du Roi, a 15-minute drive from the golf course, the Spinaker is a superb 4 * which borders the Marina of Port Camargue, the largest marina in Europe. Véronika and Patrick Thierry bought this old Provencal hotel four years ago to make it a top-of-the-range establishment, very popular in high season. The rooms and corridors give you the impression of embarking on a luxury cruise, with a unique panorama of the many yachts at the dock. In addition to the unique setting, the tranquility of the place and the cuisine of Damien Cousseau - a young star chef of 28 years - are the other strengths of this boutique hotel, which has a panoramic restaurant, a rootof (with musical evenings organized during fine weather), a bar, a rum cellar and a spa. An oyster bar should be created next April, on the edge of the Marina.
