On February 5, the DP World Tour announced a major transformation for the prestigious French golf open, the oldest national tournament in continental Europe. From now on, it will be called FedEx open de France, following a naming contract concluded with the American logistics company. This new collaboration is part of the strategic alliance between the PGA Tour and the DP World Tour, aimed at increasing the visibility and appeal of European golf.

The tournament now occupies a special place in the new Back 9 of the DP World Tour, where players will compete in nine of the Tour's most historic tournaments and national opens from August to October in an attempt to qualify for the DP World Tour Play-Offs.

The Strategic Alliance between PGA TOUR and the DP World Tour was instrumental in reaching this historic agreement. FedEx has had a long-standing relationship with the PGA TOUR since 1986 with its sponsorship of the annual tournament at Memphis at TPC Southwind, currently the FedEx St. Jude Championship.

FedEx increased its involvement with the PGA TOUR in 2002 by becoming an official marketing partner, then adding the position of title sponsor of the competition FedExCup of the PGA TOUR in 2007, which concludes with the FedExCup Playoffs each August.

In addition to the significant exposure FedEx will receive on the course, the company will also work closely with the DP World Tour's award-winning original content and branding team to deliver creative content campaigns across digital channels before and during the tournament.

About the new agreement, Brian Philips, executive vice president and chief marketing and communications officer of FedEx, said: “We are proud to expand our footprint in the world of professional golf by becoming title sponsor of the French Open on the DP World Tour. FedEx has long supported the PGA TOUR through the FedEx Cup and the tournament played annually in Memphis, Tennessee, where our company's world headquarters are located. We look forward to working with the DP World Tour in France, home to Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport, our largest international air base. This platform in the Paris region serves more than 45 countries across Europe and employs more than 5500 people. »

For its part, Keith Pelley, director of the DP World Tour, added : “We are excited to welcome FedEx to the DP World Tour global platform, allowing them to further expand the golf marketing program they already have in the United States with the PGA TOUR. The French Open is one of our oldest and most prestigious events, played on the iconic Golf National course which hosted the Ryder Cup in 2018. This will provide FedEx with an ideal platform to showcase to the audience of the DP World Tour, their know-how in terms of international logistics. This agreement provides further proof of the success of the strategic alliance with the PGA TOUR, which enhances the DP World Tour and its members by providing new commercial opportunities with prestigious brands. »

Pascal Grizot, president of the French Golf Federation, said : “In 2024, the French Open enters a very exciting new era. In FedEx, it finds a new prestigious title partner, with a long and illustrious presence in the world of golf, and whose investment guarantees the development of our historic national open. As a tournament owned by the Back 9 Swing, we will also have the opportunity to tell exciting stories as the pressure mounts for the best players on the DP World Tour to qualify for the Play-offs. Offs. »

PGA TOUR Director Jay Monahan added : “This announcement is yet another example of the collaboration between the PGA TOUR and the DP World Tour, working together to benefit men’s professional golf. As a PGA TOUR tournament sponsor since 1986 and the FedEx Cup since 2007, FedEx has played an integral role in growing the PGA TOUR to the benefit of our players, tournaments and fans. We are proud to support FedEx in their next move into professional golf, which will allow them to support one of the crown jewels of the DP World Tour. »
