The 2014 edition of the Reunion Island Open, which will take place from December 12 to 17, will see the three golf courses of the island associated for the occasion: the Golf du Bassin Bleu (18 holes) in Saint-Gilles-les -Highs, the Colorado Golf (9 holes) in the Mountain and the Bourbon Golf (18 holes) in the Etang-Salé. For the first time Reunion will host the French Pros de Golf Doubles Championship: a major competition that the French Golf Federation has decided to organize on the island. A great recognition for the Réunion Golf League and the local clubs which will host a national and international event with the participation of European players.

“I think it's a way of rewarding the Reunion League, which for six years has invested a lot in doubles. We have succeeded, despite the omnipresence of Mauritius in the discipline, to showcase our know-how. " explains Jean-Marie Hoareau, president of the Bassin Bleu golf course and vice-president of the Reunion Golf League. The principle being that on this competition the first fifteen players of the national classification invite their partners. The league is responsible for bringing in five foreign teams, two from South Africa, Switzerland, England and Italy. “Beyond the sporting part, this event is a way of saying that it is also possible to play golf in Reunion Island”.

Another strong point is that the League also works year-round with schools to promote golf to young people. “Eighty percent of our time is dedicated to young people. We are constantly doing detection and we have about 550 young people coming from middle and high schools. We had the chance to launch big names, Jade Shaeffer who is a former licensee of the Golf Club de Bourbon in Etang-Salé, closer to us, Alexandre Daydou who is the 2013 Junior French Champions, Alexandre Lasalarié who finished second on a big competition in the United States or Romane Juvé which is in pole France. We even have three young people who are studying sports in the United States. Finally, we have developed “golf discovery” days for women with the town halls. With a contribution of 15 euros per year, women can come and play for two hours every Friday afternoon ” emphasizes Serge Mas, president of the Réunion golf league. And it works! For information, there are currently 2837 golf licensees in Reunion Island and this number is constantly increasing.

Reunion has three courses of great technical and aesthetic diversity.

With 2 magnificent 18-hole courses, between sky and sea and an incredible 9-hole course in the mountains, facing the sea, Reunion Island is the first golf destination in French overseas territories.

The Bourbon Golf Club: historic course of the island, the Bourbon Golf was created in 1969. Located in the heart of the dense forest of the Etang Salé, this 18-hole golf course offers a 6225m course on a perfectly relief dish.

The Colorado Golf Club: located at 660m above sea level on the heights of La Montagne, the 2317m of the golf course is extremely hilly and therefore technically demanding. This course is the only 9 hole on the island.

The Bassin Bleu golf course: the 18 holes of the Bassin Bleu golf course are certainly the most selective and strategic on the island. Nestled between impressive ravines and eucalyptus forests, the 5923m of the Saint-Gillois route offers a magnificent panorama of the ocean.
