Accustomed to Stoke-Play, the PGA Tour changes format each year when it arrives in Austin for the WGC Dell Technologies Match Play. As the name suggests, the field's 64 players will compete for the title of match play world champion. It is Billy Horschel, currently 16th player in the world who will defend his crown.

This week of the PGA Tour is a special event for the best players in the world who will have the opportunity to compete in match play. The players are divided into sixteen pools of four, where only the best of the pool will be able to access the final stages.

The group matches are played on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, before giving way to the final stages:

  • Saturday morning: Round of XNUMX
  • Saturday afternoon: quarter-final
  • Sunday morning: semi-final
  • Sunday afternoon: final and small final

The Austin Country Club course is once again hosting the event. Texas golf has hosted this championship since 2016 and Jason Day's second victory. Entry into the field of player is done only by the world ranking: it is the 64 best players in the world who are eligible to play this tournament (the following must wait for a withdrawal).

We can note three absent from the world top 10: Cameron Smith, Rory McIlroy (former winner of the event in 2015), as well as Sam Burns winner last week during the Valspar Championship.

No French will take part in the event. This WGC Dell Technologies Match Play has never smiled on a tricolor, despite the exploits in the cacti of Victor Dubuisson, defeated in the final by Jason Day in 2014.

Billy Horschel will be present to defend his title won last year against Scottie Scheffler.
