TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP: Who will win the FedEx Cup?

This Thursday begins the final tournament of the 2020-2021 PGA TOUR season: the Tour Championship.

Since 2019, a new formula has been adopted to end the season of the American circuit. It aims to offer more suspense but also a better understanding of the issue to the spectators. Indeed, the calculation of FedEx points is ratified at the end of the BMW CHAMPIONSHIP, penultimate tournament of the season (won by Patrick Cantlay).

Due to this classification, the players will start with a certain number of strokes behind the leader of the classification.

Consequently, the player at the top of the leaderboard at the end of the four days will necessarily be the winner of the FedEx Cup and no calculation will be necessary as in the victory of Tiger Woods in 2018, having come close to winning the FedEx Cup to Justin Rose.

However, as regards the attribution of the world points, the calculation of the classification will be made on the total score of the week without the compensations. During the 2020 edition, Xander Scoutchele had therefore pocketed 58 World points synonymous with victory on the PGA Tour.

East Lake will therefore welcome the 30 best players of the season this week. The leaderboard before the start of the first lap therefore gives us Patrick Cantlay in the lead at -10. Its first pursuer Tony Finau, winner of the first playoff tournament, the Northern Trust is 2 strokes behind at -8.

Unlike the previous format, all climbs are possible, the 30th starting with 10 strokes behind the leader.

The world number 1 John Rahm winner of the US OPEN will start at -6.

His runner-up Dustin Johnson, defending champion, will start 7 strokes behind at -3.

The double winner Rory McIlroy will start 8 strokes behind at -2.

See you on Thursday for the epilogue of this 2020-2021 season.
