Master craftsman Bob Vokey and his innovative R&D team are once again shaping the future of wedges with the introduction of their latest products: the Titleist Vokey Design Spin Milled 7. Available in stores from March 9, 2018, the new Vokey wedges SM7 offers all golfers the opportunity to improve their little game and gain confidence through unmatched craftsmanship, technology and quality.

The previous generation of Vokey models, the SM6, heralded a new era of innovation and performance thanks to the progressive center of gravity (CG) design. The changes made to the SM7 (the most played wedge on the PGA Tour, including 4 SM7s in Jordan Spieth's bag) further widen the gap in terms of performance between a Vokey wedge and that of another brand.

More efficient in the three key areas of wedging, the technological advances of the new SM7 wedges offer greater versatility of shots thanks to wider fitting options, better control of distances and trajectories, as well as a higher spin rate:

6 types of soles

Better wedging starts with a good fit. The six types of sole (F, S, M, K, L and the new D configuration) developed by Bob with the collaboration and involvement of the best players, allow golfers of all levels to enjoy wedges adapted to their swing, the types of shots they like to make and the terrain conditions.

  • Sole F: Full sole designed primarily for full swings and shots requiring square face positioning. This is why wedges between 46 ° and 52 ° all have the F sole. The 54 ° / 56 ° sand wedge with F sole are the most played on the PGA Tour.
  • M sole: Vokey's favorite, the M sole is designed for players who like to turn the face to open and close it, thus shaping special shots around the green.
  • Sole K: The most pronounced bounce in the range, the K sole is the ultimate bunker club and the most forgiving wedge in the range.
  • S sole: Design based on feedback from Steve Stricker, the S sole is best suited for shots requiring square positioning of the face with a more versatile feel than what the F sole offers. Simple mechanics are best suited for this type of wedge.
  • Sole D: Wedge with a pronounced bounce, the new D sole offers a high bounce and the crescent shape of the M sole to achieve a greater variety of strokes.
  • Sole L: Shaped like a narrow crescent, the L sole allows for a wide variety of strokes around the greens, but it is the least forgiving wedge in the range.

The SM7s offer the most complete selection of lofts, bounces and soles, with 23 combinations available.

Progressive center of gravity

Different locations of the progressive center of gravity are precisely aligned to improve ball trajectory and distance control. These are the Vokey wedges offering the best feeling to date.

  • A concept developed by the Vokey R&D team, the progressive center of gravity aligns the center of gravity with the point of impact of each loft to produce precise distance and trajectory control, while providing exceptional feel. The progressive center of gravity is designed using cutting-edge CAD (Computer-Aided Design) machining technology, which can be seen on the back of the wedge.
  • Extensive testing of the SM6 models has shown that for the SM7s, it is possible to improve the locations of the centers of gravity. The Vokey R&D team has perfected these positions, with an even higher center of gravity for high lofts and lower for low lofts. This results in a more consistent level of performance with a better feel on impact.

Spin milled streaks

They are machined with even more precision and 100% of the ridges are controlled to offer a higher spin rate (up to 100 additional revolutions / min on average).

  • Bob and his team saw the opportunity to add a new Spin Milled grooving process for plated finish wedges (Tour Chrome and Brushed Steel), compared to the classic ranges available (Jet Black and Raw Black). This new method improves state-of-the-art Vokey grooving tolerances, resulting in a more precise, more finished cut and more spin for plated finish wedges.
  • An exclusive heat treatment is applied to each Vokey Design SM7 wedge. The ability to create spin is extended over time.

N ° 1 of the wedges on the tour: Just two weeks after their introduction at the Shriners Hospital for Children Open in late October 2017, the Vokey SM7 wedges have become the most played model on the PGA Tour, with 123 SM7 in play at the RSM Classic. Last week, there were 183 SM7 wedges in play at the CareerBuilder Challenge.

Jordan Spieth, who immediately adopted four new models (46.10 F, 52.08 F, 56.10 S, 60.04 L), is among the 100 players on the Tour to switch to SM7. These players also include Jimmy Walker (46.10 F, 54.08 M, 60.04 L), Bill Haas (54.10 S, 60.10 S), Webb Simpson (54.14 F, 60.10 S), Brian Harman (46.10 F, 50.08 F, 54.10 S, 60.04 L) and Andrew 'Beef' Johnston (46.10 F, 50.08 F, 54.10 S, 58.10 S).

SM7 finishes: The new SM7 wedges are available in three finishes (Tour Chrome, Brushed Steel and Jet Black). Chrome Tower retains its famous shiny chrome finish. The darker Brushed Steel finish is richer and slightly more polished than the Steel Gray version of the SM6s, while maintaining an anti-glare finish on the move. Following requests made by players to Aron Dill, Vokey's representative on the Tour, the raw Jet Black version has been enhanced with black paint in the logos and engravings.

Sophisticated customization and tailor-made options: A wide variety of specifications and customizations exist for SM7 wedges, including a selection of sleeves, sleeve labels, grips, ferrules, engravings and fill paints. Price and availability: The SM7 wedges will be available from March 9, 2018 at the RRP of € 159. Standard steel shaft: True Temper Dynamic Gold S200.
