The duo Tom Hoge and Sahith Theegala won the QBE Shootout, thanks to a card of 62 (10 shots under par) rendered in the third and final round of this unofficial PGA Tour competition. Nelly Korda finished in 5th place with her duo Denny McCarthy.

Hoge and Theegala had ten birdies to take a lead over their compatriots Charley Hoffman and Ryan Palmer and win this team tournament, which is being played in Naples (Florida), during the December break of the PGA Tour.

Sahith Theegala birdied a 4-yard putt on the final hole on Sunday as he and Tom Hoge finished 62, 10 under, with the 4-ball format, becoming the first rookie team to win the QBE Shootout in 11 years.

Ryan Palmer and Charley Hoffman each missed putts by about 3 yards at Tiburon Golf Club, which would have forced them into a playoff. They finished with a score of 65 on the day.

Theegala was coming off a stellar rookie season on the PGA Tour, during which he achieved the Tour championship and had two chances to win on the final hole of tournaments.

The QBE Shootout is an unofficial event, but it still felt good to win.

"It's nice to taste victory because it's so hard here", said Theegala.

Hoge, who won his first PGA Tour title at Pebble Beach in February, shouldered much of the load early in the day when Theegala strained a muscle on his left side on the first hole. At the end of the day, Theegala said he felt better and was able to swing fuller.

They still had to deal with Palmer and Hoffman, especially at the end. Palmer's chip down a steep par-17 5 didn't hit the hill and came right back at his feet. He quickly rushes for the next shot and sends it into the cup, an unlikely birdie that allows his team to share the lead.

Harris English and Matt Kuchar, attempting to win the QBE Shootout for the fourth time, finished two shots behind after a 62 on Sunday.

Max Homa and Kevin Kisner shot a 63 and finished fourth.

The top player on the LPGA Tour was Nelly Korda, who teamed with Denny McCarthy for a final-lap 62 and a fifth-place finish.

Lexi Thompson finished in 10th place with her duo Maverick McNealy.
