More than twenty years ago, Antoine Riboud offered a kind of dacha to the Rencontres Musicales d'Évian and to his friend Mstislav Rostropovich, who was then artistic director. This hall, made entirely of wood and with impeccable acoustics, is still today one of the most beautiful music halls in the world. One of the most magical.

Evian Resort presents Jazz à la Grange

For three years, this large box of red cedar and Jura pine has been reviving to the rhythm of the new Rencontres Musicales d'Évian and chamber music. But such a setting can and must welcome and serve other musical forms, provided they have the same ambition of high standards and emotions.

This is precisely the spirit of this new winter festival, launched in partnership with the Maison des Arts du Léman: making room for meetings with great artists from the international jazz scene such as Mario Canonge, Stefano Di Battista, Erik Truffaz. , Éric Legnini or Electro Deluxe. The three closing concerts will echo the decades of chamber music that resonate in the hall by presenting the jazz projects of classical musicians who, for the most part, have already participated in previous editions of the Rencontres Musicales d'Évian. Here again, for a few days, genres, styles, generations and audiences mingle.

Emblematic places of the Rencontres Musicales d'Évian, they are hosting the first edition of Jazz à la Grange this winter. The Théâtre du Casino, located in the heart of the city facing Lake Geneva, is a place for live performances during the season and a must-see for both festivals. With a capacity of 300 places, it is a small Italian candy box. It was produced by a student of Charles Garnier, famous master builder of the Paris Opera, between 1883 and 1885. Behind the neoclassical facade, the small Italian room has preserved intact the beautiful polychrome and gilded decoration executed by Negri at the end of the XNUMXth century.

Created in 1976, the Rencontres Musicales d'Évian is one of the only festivals to have its own concert hall in the early 1990s. Patrick Bouchain imagines a hall made only of wood, which sounds like the interior a cello; at the back of the stage, the birch trees recall the homeland of cellist Mstislav Rostropovich, then artistic director of the Rencontres Musicales d'Évian.
