Rahm, 29, created a surprise last week by announcing his transfer from PGA Tour to the LIV Golf League. He is said to have agreed a contract worth around £450m. Rahm's suspension from the PGA Tour comes as no surprise, as all previous members who competed in LIV Golf League tournaments became ineligible for PGA Tour events.

The decision means Rahm will not be able to defend the Tournament of Champions in Hawaii on the PGA Tour in the first week of 2024. Some wondered if Rahm would still be eligible to play in the tournament in early January, as he will not be playing his first LIV Golf League event before February 2024. But the PGA Tour doesn't see it that way.

The PGA Tour memo states: "In accordance with PGA Tour tournament rules, Jon Rahm has been informed that he is suspended and is no longer eligible to participate in PGA Tour tournaments due to his association with a series of unauthorized tournaments. »

As a result, Rahm will not participate in the FedExCup next season, which allows Mackenzie Hughes, which was initially outside the top 50 for Signatures Events in 2024, to rise to 50th place. Alex Smalley also moves from 61st to 60th place to ensure its presence in the Genesis Invitational de Tiger Woods. Carl Yuan is undoubtedly the happiest this morning, as he moves from 126th to 125th place, which allows him to keep his PGA Tour card for another season.

Tony Finau commits to the PGA Tour

Otherwise, Tony Finau six-time winner on tour, declared his loyalty to the PGA Tour in 2024. Finau posted an update on social media to put to rest rumors that he is set to join the LIV Golf League.

Of course, we always have to take comments about PGA Tour allegiance with a grain of salt these days, especially after players like Dustin Johnson, Bryson DeChambeau, Cameron Smith and Jon Rahm have said the same thing, but for now at least, Finau remains a PGA Tour player.

Finau was “very close” to signing for the LIV Golf League, but ultimately the deal was not satisfactory for both parties. The Telegraph had also reported Finau's interest in speaking to the LIV Golf League ahead of the new season.

Finau posted on social media: “As this year comes to a close, I am grateful to play the game I love and have the opportunity to compete at the highest level.

“I can’t wait to begin my 10th season on the PGA Tour! And excited to defend my titles in Mexico and Houston!

“Thank you to my partners for your continued support. Thank you fans for all the love you have for the entire Finau family.

“See you soon in Maui!” »
