The exhibition pays homage to one of the greatest patrons of the early twentieth century, Sergei Shchukin - a visionary Russian collector of French modern art, whose collection, as Anne Baldassari, General Curator of Heritage and Commissioner General of the exhibition, “Is still unknown to the general public in the West today. Since its dispersion in 1948, it has never been united as a singular and coherent artistic entity ”.

The Chtchoukine collection at the Louis Vuitton FoundationThanks to the generous participation of the State Hermitage Museum and the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts who contributed to the development of the project, the exhibition aims to re-situate the heritage value of the Shchukin collection by presenting a significant set of 30 masterpieces by Impressionist, Post-Impressionist and Modern masters from this collection. The exhibition also deals with the impact of the Shchoukine collection on the formation of Cubofuturist, Suprematist and Constructivist movements, through a set of XNUMX works by major artists of the Russian avant-garde, from the collections of the Tretyakov National Gallery. , the Museum of Contemporary Art in Thessaloniki, the Pushkin Museum, the Stedeljik Museum, the Sapone Gallery and the MoMA.

In addition, the video installation “Chtchoukine, Matisse. Dance & Music ”by directors / directors Saskia Boddeke and Peter Greenaway evokes the monumental work commission entrusted to Henri Matisse by Sergueï Chtchoukine in 1909 -1910 for the grand staircase of his Palace.

The general curatorship of the exhibition, the cultural programming and the scientific direction of the catalog have been entrusted to Anne Baldassari. The project was made possible thanks to the active complicity of Sergei Chtchoukine's grandson, André-Marc Delocque – Fourcaud, historical advisor to the project, as well as to the remarkable commitment of Marina D. Loshak, director of the State Museum of Pushkin Fine Arts, Mikhail B. Piotrovsky, director of the State Hermitage Museum, and finally Zelfira Tregulova, director of the State Tretyakov Gallery.
