In 2009, FootJoy announced that it would no longer be producing its popular Classics line of shoes. For years, FootJoy Classics was the de facto choice for discerning golfers around the world. While the brand's Icon models were more acceptable alternatives, nothing could resist the quality and craftsmanship inherent in the Classics. That was until now.

FootJoy launched a new line of luxury shoes and clothing, called Collection FJ 1857, with timeless looks inspired by 160 years rich in history. It is intended for the modern and high-end golfer who appreciates a sophisticated look on and off the course. The pieces in the collection are handcrafted with high-end materials such as genuine Italian calfskin, 100% cashmere and Supima cotton.

“FootJoy has a long tradition of excellence in product design and innovation, from the Classics line, which was at one time virtually the only shoe worn on the PGA TOUR and in the best clubs around the world, to the franchise. iconic DryJoys® that revolutionized all-weather footwear in the Pro / SL category, which is currently the hottest shoe on the Tour ”said Chris Lindner, president of FootJoy. “1857 celebrates FJ's history in golf with a timeless collection of luxury footwear and apparel. "

The collection takes its name from the year FootJoy was founded by Fredrick Packard. The young man left his father's shoe shop and started his own shoe business. From there he fused his love of golf and shoe making to create a brand dedicated to making quality golf shoes. The FJ 1857 collection goes back in time to honor the company's heritage while pushing the boundaries of modern performance and luxury.

When crafting the 1857 shoe line, it was important for FootJoy to go through the same 150-step shoe-making process as it did 160 years ago. After closing its factories in Brockton, Massachusetts, the brand turned to a European family-owned factory to create this new line.

A glance at the end result is sure to put a smile on the face of golfers who wore the classics. Timeless styles possess a similar aesthetic, quality and craftsmanship to those of the Classics. In fact, the 1857 shoe is built on the same Aintree pattern used in the classics and features a rounded character and standard fit across the forefoot, foot, and heel.

FootJoy has also selected the finest materials, such as premium Italian cowhide leather, leather outsoles, full leather linings, suede heels, Goodyear bands, and adjustable cork covered beds that s 'adapt to the shape of the foot. A distinctive FJ 1857 stamp on the leather outsoles adds to the elegance. Each shoe features Pulsar LP crampons with metallic threads to provide traction and stability.

In addition to golf shoes, you will find a range of classic dress shoes with straight toe, double monk strap, blucher patterns and three real suede tips in shades of red, blue and contemporary grays.

Much like the shoe line, the 1857 clothing line combines premium fabrics with iconic looks that can be worn on or off the course. The polo shirts are made with a super soft Supima cotton performance blend and are available in a variety of styles, colors and patterns. With the temperature of sweaters on us, the 1857 collection brings a variety of knitwear to the fairways this fall. Contemporary outfits of traditional cardigans and V-necks mingle with more casual collars and hoodies. The common thread of all sweaters is soft and luxurious cashmere. Charcoal stretch wool-blend trousers and a subtle navy check pattern complement 1857 shoes and apparel beautifully, on and off the course.

A Pittards® leather glove in ultra-soft vanilla leather, a soft binding and precision stitching complete the pieces on the course. For an additional level of swagger, the glove includes an FJ 1857 ball marker and is packaged in a special collector box.

The elegant look of the 1857 collection extends beyond the course with a range of classic gingham, checked and pinstripe long sleeve fabrics. All of them are perfect for a day at the office or a night on the town. For an off-course layering, opt for a stylish quilted barn jacket, a full-zip quilted jacket or a hybrid jacket with a soft fleece knit.
