Set back from the beaches where the sand yachts are having fun, behind the high dunes, you can hear the sea rumbling but you have to reach the dune hillock overlooking the green of 17 to see it.

But on the ground, there is no lack of clues to remind us of the marine environment of the Bay of Somme. Maritime pines whose smell of sap releases bronchi, marram grass and other grasses planted in fine sand flying away at the first gust of wind, a multitude of birds flying over the fairways and as many waders in the reeds of the parts of water… the panoply is complete!

In a natural setting where the relief forged by the wind over time has done most of the work, Jean-Manuel Rossi has hardly touched the decor. He contented himself with planting a little grass on the sand to draw the fairways of a course which soon took on volume where the dunes bordering the holes made it easier to visualize the shape. On the 5, it is very useful at the level of the dogleg.

It is important to collect points on the first leg before the wind kicks in when attacking double-digit holes. Greens can be devilish when gardeners bring down the Simplex blades! Leaving the green of 12 placed in the heart of a sand cirque where the dunes enclose the game, the link to the departure of 13 above a protected area where it is recommended to walk calmly, not to shout, not to frighten the birds which, nestled under the bushes, hatch and live in peace.

Far from our birdies… On the assault of the double dogleg of 13, an uphill par where the approach is deceptive, the game becomes complicated until the end. From the back, putting 16 into play is stressful as the bushes seem to invade the fairway of this short par 4 before a small pond blocks access to the green.

Bordered by the multicolored houses of a holiday residence, the last holes return to the small wooden clubhouse with a slate roof where it is very pleasant to sit down at lunchtime. In summer, the terrace protected from the wind is welcome to still enjoy these pine and iodine scents subtly mixed and invigorating.

In the kitchen, the chef does better than defend himself, his welsh - a typical dish from the North, with melted cheddar cheese, a fried egg and ham - is to die for! After 18 holes on foot, he slips on his own with a good beer.

On a different note, the pan-fried Saint-Jacques deserves our attention, just like the fried tartare, simple and effective. You only have to see the cheerful faces of the British who sit at the table to understand that you are not bored there. This 19th hole is like those played in the great outdoors, invigorating and sporty.
