"The US Women's Open has played an important role in the development of women's golf for the past 75 years"USGA CEO Mike Davis said. “As we come to this important date, we want to thank and honor everyone who has participated in the Championship from the start - the fans, volunteers, staff and of course the champions and players themselves, by celebrating and reliving memorable moments in Houston next December »

To support this historic milestone, the USGA has appointed three-time US Women's Open champion Annika Sorenstam as Major Ambassador. Her victories in 1995 and 1996 made her the first international player to win back-to-back titles, adding a third victory to her record with her playoff win in 2006. Sorenstam is one of six players to win at least three US Women's Open titles, and the only one to have achieved this feat in the past 35 years. In 2012, she received the USGA's Bob Jones Award, the association's highest honor. Ahead of the US Women's Open in December, Sorenstam will receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

“I am proud to represent the US Women's Open as an Ambassador in this historic year »said Annika Sorenstam, from Sweden. “This major event means a lot to me and my career, and I look forward to celebrating and reliving moments that have meant so much to me, but also to the sport of golf as a whole. It really is a special occasion for many of us ”..

To further commemorate this event, the USGA, in association with Rolex, launched the US Women's Open History Experience, a fully immersive timeline that brings the first 74 years of the US Women's Open Championship to life on uswomensopen.com. Through original broadcast footage, stock photos and interviews with the champions, fans will have the opportunity to relive moments that are not only meaningful to the game, but also have personal and sentimental significance. From the emotion generated by the cancer of Babe Didrikson Zaharias in 1954 to the victory of Se Ri Pak in 1998 which inspired a new generation of champions, the timeline of the US Women's Open traces the history and impact of the championship since its founding in 1946.
