Two-time Nedbank Golf Challenge winner Tommy Fleetwood posted a final 67 (-5) to come back from behind and celebrate his South African double and his 6th DP World Tour title at Gary Player Country Club. Romain Langasque, the best Frenchman (29th), has met the sufficient conditions to play the DP World Tour Championship on the Jumeirah Golf Estates next Thursday in Dubai with Victor Perez, Antoine Rozner and Matthieu Pavon.

Tommy Fleetwood Wins 2nd Consecutive Nedbank Golf Challenge –

Fleetwood, defending the title he secured in 2019, played all four rounds under par 70-70-70-67 to claim his sixth DP World Tour title. The Briton started the day three shots down, but he scored four birdies and an eagle for a final 67-11 overall.

One stroke behind Fleetwood produced a pure moment of grace as he tucked in the eagle on the par 5 of the 15th. From there he hung on for a well-deserved victory by a stroke ahead of Sun City.

Tommy posted a final lap of -5 to finish at -11 overall, a neck ahead of Fox, who could have edged out Rory Mcllroy at the top of the DP World Tour leaderboard.

Shubhankar Sharma took third place 1 stroke behind Fox, and Richie Ramsay fourth with eight headed shots.

Rasmus Højgaard and Thomas Detry and the night leaders had only played five holes when play was suspended due to the storm.

Fleetwood in turn birdied two and then two more in a row on the fifth and sixth holes before the storm warning sounded and led to a delay of more than three hours.

Højgaard, shortly after the restart, left the seventh hole with a bogey after missing the green to the left with his tee shot, and another miss on the eighth just before a double bogey on the nine he misses the fairway with his driver and puts his third shot in the water.

Fleetwood and Sharma took advantage, with both players dropping to ten under par with birdies. Sharma birdied another ten while Fleetwood made one par just like Fox.

Tommy Fleetwood fell back with a bogey at 12, but a moment of grace at 14 allowed him to come back. He was in the bunker to the left of the par five-in-two which left him a long shot with an average lie. But he tucked in the eagle to come back alone in the lead at -11, but a few moments later, his partners Sharma and Fox tucked in their putts for the birdie and we joined Fleetwood, the three players walked on the 15 in sharing the head.

Sharma's run for the win ended with two bogeys on the 16th and 17th holes and when Fleetwood tied on the last hole after nearly making a huge birdie attempt, Fox paid a heavy price for a poor start, posting his only bogey of the day at the worst time.

The victory was Fleetwood's sixth on the DP World Tour and the first since that event three years ago, the last time it was staged due to the pandemic.

Fleetwood commented: "It's been a great week. I have already had so many incredible memories here, such a special connection with this course.

“It's really good to play the four rounds in the last team and it was so nice to be behind the leading players, but with a chance. That of drawing inspiration from the good memories that you already have somewhere when you won. I felt good all day. »

On his shot of the 14th, he said: “It wasn't the best lie, but I felt good. It wasn't a terrible place. I don't know how far it could have gone, but it went well. That spark, that stuff happens. »

Fleetwood had been ill earlier in the week and his participation had been questioned.

He added : «It was touch and go Thursday morning (if he wanted to play), then Saturday when we were up early (to finish round two) I felt like I had nothing in me. Still very bad."

“The doctor here has been amazing. I just gave his grandson the winning golf ball. Without him, there was no chance that I played on Thursday.

"We didn't know what would happen if it would be three rounds, two, so I thought if I could keep going, keep playing... And I was playing well."

"It wasn't too stressful for me and I had it on my mind to keep going...and you never know what happens."

Since switching to the TP5x pix at the CJ CUP last October, Fleetwood has six top-five finishes worldwide (two in majors) and Sunday's win at the Nedbank Golf Challenge.

«At this level of play, especially with Tommy, who is so thorough with his equipment, players are only going to change if they know it can improve their performance on the course. There is no change for the sake of changing. His results since switching to the TP5x pix speak for themselves: six top-five finishes, two majors and one win to top it all off.».
