The resumption of Tiger Woods for 2021 depends of course on his recovery and his ability to quickly regain his marks, especially after undergoing a fifth back operation after his recent participation in the PNC Championship. A microdiscectomy consisting of removing a fragment of a disc that pinched a nerve in his lower back, he announced on Twitter on Tuesday.

As a result of this intervention, the champion will not be restored in time to participate, as he had planned, in the Farmer's Insurance Open which will begin next week in San Diego or in the Genesis Invitational which will be held in Los Angeles next month.

"I can't wait to start training again," said the man with the fifteen Grand Slam titles, without specifying the date on which he had the operation.

No date has therefore been set for his return to the greens.

Woods has had surgery on his back and knees several times in recent years, but that hasn't stopped him from returning to the top level, winning the Augusta Masters in 2019, his first Major in eleven years.

Woods said his schedule will focus on training and preparing for the Big Four Meetings. He will also be mindful of when he feels good enough to compete again.

Last year, Woods opted out of the Honda Classic, the Arnold Palmer Invitational, which he won eight times in his career, and The Players. This is to be expected to change in 2021.

He could make the 2021 Ryder Cup squad and end his year with the Hero World Challenge in December.

Tiger Woods having won the Masters, is exempt from the PGA Championship, the US Open and the Open Championship including an exemption until the US Open 2023

In October 2019, he also won the Zozo Championship in Japan, his 82nd title on the PGA Tour, tying Sam Snead's record. Since then, he's always been looking for the victory that will place him alone at the top of this ranking.
