A play-off match on Monday between Jason Day and Alex Noren at the Farmers Insurance Open delayed the publication of the official world golf ranking this week. And when it finally came out, two unsurprising things happened: The two players moved and Tiger Woods took another big leap.

Tiger Woods' 23rd place return on the PGA Tour at Torrey Pines lifted him 108 places, from 647th to 539th. Of course, that's not a big deal for someone who has spent 683 record weeks in the top. during his illustrious career, but it is the highest place Woods has been ranked in the past two years.

Meanwhile, Day climbed four places to 10th with its 11th PGA win, while Noren gained three places to 16th. The top seven remain unchanged, Dustin Johnson remaining at the forefront for the 50th consecutive week.

Despite hitting only three of the 14 fairways in each of his last three rounds, Woods managed to reach par or better on each of the four days. It was Woods' first official event on the PGA Tour since last year's Farmers Insurance Open and he scored his first tour cut since the 2015 Wyndham Championship.

Tiger Woods was only ranked 1,199 before finishing T-9 last month in the Hero World Challenge to move up to 668th. The 14-time major champion will be next at Open Genesis in two weeks.
