The sweet music of the Augusta National finally resounded in this beginning of April the opportunity for us to see the best players in the world doing their best to put on the green jacket. This course, the work of Bobby Jones, is one of the most feared in the world with its super fast greens. An average shot can quickly turn into a bad shot if the depth and spin are not controlled, like Sergio Garcia on the difficult third shot of the 15 a few years ago.

18 players played under PAR for this first day and the best of them is Sungjae Im. He returned a card of 67 (-5), two bogeys for five birdies and an eagle on the last hole of Amen Corner, par 5 of 13. He was one shot ahead of the Australian Cameron Smith.

Cameron Smith signs eight birdies on his card unfortunately tainted by two double bogeys, one to start on hole 1 and one to finish his game on hole 18. The world number 6 nevertheless returns to the clubhouse with an excellent card of 68 (- 4).

Four players complete the podium: Joaquin Niemann, Scottie Scheffler our new world number 1, and two former winners of the event Danny Willett and Dustin Johnson.

Tiger Woods for his big comeback after long months without a tournament, played under the PAR with a card of 71 (-1). The Tiger makes two bogeys for three birdies including a superb putt in at 16. He also signs an important par at 18 after a misplaced face-off in the trees on the left. Even if we could see him limping slightly throughout the game, the game of the Tiger seems in place, and he will know for sure the will to join in the victory.

Rory McIlroy returned a card over par on the first day, 73 (+1). He signs two birdies for three bogeys. We recall that only the green jacket still escapes the Northern Irishman in his quest for a grand slam.
He is currently 31st alongside Collin Morikawa and former double winner Bubba Watson.

Jon Rahm, the 1 world number 2021 plays 74 (+2) on this first day as does Jordan Spieth.
