The United States retain the title against Europe with the biggest gap ever recorded since the creation of the Solheim Cup, for a final score of 16 ½ to 11 ½

The hosts held a five - point lead on Sunday with just 3½ to win in 12 singles matches to secure the win as Europe needed nine points to come back.

Juli Inkster, became the second USA captain to obtain two victories, after Judy Rankin in 1996 and 1998: “I am happy that we had a good lead because Europe played fire and I knew she would come back strong.

“It's not just the results. I must say that this trip was very enriching for me.
I have learned a lot over the past 18 months. It was a great pleasure to represent the European Tour. I am so proud of these young girls, and to have shared with them, to get to know them, to make new friendships, new memories ”.

When asked if she would like to continue as captain, Sorenstam replied, “I want to give someone else the chance to do it. It is time for me to pass the torch to someone else and we have some great talents to fulfill this mission successfully "

Despite the result, there were 12 happy faces from the European team and the praise for Annika Sorenstam was unanimous as an “exceptional captain”.

The next Solheim Cup will be played in Gleneagles, Scotland on September 13-15, 2019. Tickets will go on sale August 24 for SolheimCup2019.com.
