Two years after their first failure at home, the United States got their hands on the Solheim Cup trophy, beating Europe (14,5 to 13,5) on Sunday on the German courses at St Leon-Rot golf club.

The Americans won the 9th Solheim Cup after a fantastic comeback from the daughters of Julie Inkster who pulverized the Europeans of Carin Koch in the last twelve singles, to win by one point.

Europe, two-time defending champion, let slip a 6th victory and a first pass of three only by the United States from 1994 to 1998 and from 2005 to 2009.

The Europeans had made a good start in the leading position the last day, leading 10-6 after winning two of three matches in fourballs (one ball per player and the best of four wins the hole) stopped the night before.

More than one point from the goal after the victories of the French Karine Icher, the Swedish Melissa Reid and the Swedish Anna Nordqvist, the Americans gleaned the points one by one, until the last won by the Californian Paula Creamer in the costs of the German Sandra Gal.

The last day took place in a tense atmosphere due to a controversy that arose in the morning on the 17th hole of the last fourball.

Alison Lee's putt ended about half a yard from the hole and the American picked up her ball because logically such a short putt is awarded. But Norway's Suzann Pettersen pointed out that she did not seek the opponent's agreement as required by the rules and was successful.

" It's disgusting ", judged the legendary Englishwoman Laura Davies, "Happy not to play in this team" of Solheim Cup of which she holds the participation record (12).

The 2017 edition will take place in Des Moines, Iowa.
