At only 25 years old, Scottie Scheffler becomes champion of the Masters. World number 1 following his victory at the WGC Dell Technologies Match Play, the Texan does not seem to stop. He won three strokes ahead of Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy.

A new week of Masters is coming to an end, with its share of brilliant moves and strong emotions. After a controlled Sunday, Scottie Scheffler came back on 18 with a five-stroke lead to the cheers of the public. Taken by emotion when arriving on the green, the Texan signs an anecdotal four putts to win his first major with three strokes in advance. He only becomes the fifth world number 1 to win the masters, joining a circle made up of Tiger Woods or Dustin Johnson among others.

Leader since Friday evening, Scottie Scheffler has not left the first position of the week. He was able to turn his back during difficult times, and managed to return four cards under par this week: he is the only one. After two first rounds in 69 (-3) and 67 (-5), he signed two cards of 71 during his weekend.

The announced duel between Cameron Smith and the world number 1 had however started on the hats of wheels with two birdies on the first two holes of the Australian to slip one shot from the leader. However, Scottie Scheffler was able to strike at the right time with a chip in for birdie at three while Smith signed a bogey. The Australian will destroy his chances of victory at hole 12, with a ball in the water and a triple bogey. Cameron Smith finally finished in third place.

Scottie Scheffler therefore becomes a major winner at 25 and was presented with his green jacket from the hands of 2021 winner Hideki Matsuyama. He consolidates, with his victory, his place as world number 1.

The spoilsport could have been Rory McIlroy. Still looking for his first green jacket to complete his Grand Slam, the Northern Irishman returns the card of the week with a 64 (-8). McIlroy simply rolled through his game with solid putting. He also signed an eagle on the 13th then ended his week with an exit from the bunker returned to the 18th. He signed his best performance in Augusta with a second place, three strokes from victory.

Collin Morikawa, who shared McIlroy's part, finished fifth in the event, also with a bunker exit back in at 18. He took over the world number 2 spot from Jon Rahm with this top 5.

Tiger Woods having thrilled golfers around the world with his card of 71 (-1) on Thursday, finally finished 47th in the event. Despite his last two cards of 78 (+6), it is a great victory for the Tiger to play again at this level after his accident.
