Forgotten "the miracle of Medinah" and "the debacle of Gleneagles", it is time for "the revenge of Chaska": the United States reclaimed Sunday the Ryder Cup which escaped them since 2008 by leaving no chance to the Europe three-time defending champion (17-11), on the course of Hazeltine (Minnesota).

The Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy, world No.3, knew it, the American team was "hungry" after suffering three consecutive defeats in the prestigious biennial competition, in 2010, 2012 and 2014.

And with five of the ten best players on the planet, including world No.4 Jordan Spieth in its ranks, it put its mark on the 2016 edition, played in Chaska, from the first morning of competition on Friday, immediately taking the ahead 4 to 0.

While they have come together several times over the weekend, the Europeans have never managed to erase their nightmarish start to reverse the situation. And did not repeat the “miracle of Medinah”, when they had made in 2012 a breathtaking comeback after being led 10 to 6.

Arrived with three points in advance Sunday (9,5 to 6,5), the Americans did not crack this time and ensured the victory after having exceeded the mark of 14,5 points (15-10) while three parts still remained to be completed. What also repel the memory of the "Gleneagles debacle", the 16,5 to 11,5 setback in Scotland in 2014.

Meeting in Paris

It was Ryan Moore, the last player selected by Captain David Love III just a week ago, who brought the victory point to the United States. Moore, who was playing his first Ryder Cup, had the nerves to overthrow England's Lee Westwood by winning the last three holes.

“To score the decisive point in the Ryder Cup is just amazing,” said Moore. “I don't realize what just happened. "

Earlier hope had been short-lived for Europeans.

Darren Clarke's players have certainly returned for a time to one point (10,5 to 9,5) after winning three of the first four singles, in the wake of the Swede Henrik Stenson, spieth striker (3 and 2). And this despite the defeat of McIlroy, however unleashed, against Patrick Reed.

But the triple title holders were then drowned in an American tidal wave, with the victories of Rickie Fowler at the expense of Olympic champion Justin Rose, Brooks Koepka, ruthless with Englishman Danny Willett (5 and 4), Brandt Snedeker, and the point shared by Phil Mickelson.

Then assured of finally winning back the Ryder Cup, the Americans offered themselves two of the last three points at stake to finally win with a clear score of 17 to 11.

The last American success in the Ryder Cup dates back to 2008 in Louisville (Kentucky), with a score of 16,5 to 11,5.

The United States has won 26 of the 41 editions of the competition. See you now in two years near Paris, on the Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines route.
