After the first round of the PGA Championship 2022, it is the Northern Irishman, already double winner of the event, Rory McIlroy who is in the lead with a card of 65 (-5). He is one step ahead of Will Zalatoris and Tom Hoge. Tiger Woods is 99th at +4.

That's it, the PGA Championship 2022 is launched and the show was there during this first round. Fan favorite Rory McIlroy, playing in an all-star game with Tiger Woods and Jordan Spieth, opened the tournament with a 65 (-5) to take sole command of the tournament. He signs seven birdies for two bogeys during this first day and has a lead on the leaderboard over Will Zalatoris and Tom Hoge.

After his second place at the Masters thanks to his superb card of 64 (-8) in the last round, Rory McIlroy continues his momentum at the start of the week.

His game partners had a tougher day both playing over par. Jordan Spieth returns a card of 72 (+2) and ranks 56th. Tiger Woods returned to the clubhouse with a score of +4, in 99th position. He admitted in a press conference to be satisfied with his driving but very disappointed with his iron game. He also confided that the pain in his leg was more intense than expected.

A former champion also stood out in this first round, Justin Thomas, fourth at -3. Unlike the Northern Irishman, the 2017 PGA Championship winner played in the afternoon, downwind and is one of the few players to have played under par in those conditions. He scores five birdies for three bogeys.

The other star party, the three best players in the world, struggled in this first round: all three are playing over par. Scottie Scheffler scores 71 (+1), Collin Morikawa plays 72 (+2) and Jon Rahm ends his day in 73 (+3).
