Jay Monahan and the PGA Tour had already taken the decision to exclude from their tour players who played for LIV Golf. However, some had already scored many points allowing them to access the FedEx Cup playoffs. This is no longer the case since a note issued by the PGA Tour confirms that players who have joined LIV Golf are no longer eligible to participate in end-of-season tournaments.

The PGA Tour season is nearing its end, the majors have crowned their champions and it will soon be time for the FedEx Cup playoffs.

LIV Golf and Greg Norman, however, changed the game in this year 2022 and it seems that world golf is starting to change. Just winner of his first major, The Open Championship, Cameron Smith would be on his way to joining the project supported by Greg Norman. The new world number 2 did not want to answer journalists' questions at a press conference just after his victory, but he could indeed take part in the next LIV Series.

Currently second in the FedEx Cup, the Australian could be excluded from the playoffs at the end of the season. Indeed, Jay Monahan and the PGA Tour announced the creation of an “eligibility list” replacing the current list determining the FedEx classification. This list excludes players who have participated in the LIV Series from the ranking, on the following grounds: "not to negatively impact other players".

This announcement therefore has an issue for all players on the tour because even if some will not reach the playoffs, whatever happens, the FedEx ranking also determines the categories and playing rights for the 2022-2023 season.

At the moment, eight players appear in the FedEx Cup top 125: Talor Gooch, Abraham Ancer, Matt Jones, Brooks Koepka, Carlos Ortiz, Pat Perez, Hudson Swafford and Matthew Wolff. Their exclusion, for example, allows Stephan Jaeger, 133rd in the American order of merit, to join the top 125 and to be provisionally qualified for the first playoff.
