Surrounded by some of Spain's most famous wine regions, including DO Empordá, DO Alella y and DO Penedés, the PGA Catalunya Resort - already renowned for the quality of its highly acclaimed golf courses - enjoys a climate favorable hilly landscape And perfect soil conditions to allow production of high quality wine.

In the first planting phase, carefully selected vine varieties, clones and rootstocks (two varieties of white grape and one red) will include Chardonnay and Xarel lo, a local white variety with aromatic expression and versatility. The red grape, Garnatxa Negra, is a local and rustic assortment from the Empordà region that stands out for its fragrant nose and its ability to produce aged wines.

“Golfers continue to recognize PGA Catalunya Resort as the home of Spain's # 1 golf experience, the Stage Course,” commented David Plana, CEO of PGA Catalunya Resort. "However, our proximity to these famous wine regions, combined with the gastronomic heritage of the Costa Brava, have made connoisseurs of life's finest pleasures a must-see destination".

Named after an old farmhouse that previously occupied the land, Celler Mas Hereu seeks to reclaim the ancient Catalan tradition of family production for its own consumption, creating wines for customers and residents.

The new project will also allow vineyard adoption opportunities for owners, as well as wine picking and sales workshops for all guests of PGA Catalunya Resort and Hotel Camiral, Girona's only five-star hotel and member of The Leading Hotels of the World network.

David concluded: "The estate expansion campaign allows us to expand our offering of sports and leisure activities, and we hope our new vineyard will further enhance the resort experience for visitors and residents."

The development of Celler Mas Hereu is part of the PGA Catalunya Resort's three-year, $ 53 million development program. Plans include adding new sports facilities, including an equestrian center, a man-made recreational lake and an adjoining beach club.
