There were college stars galore, grades one through five, All-Americans, the reigning American champion, players from Austria and Sweden, Denmark and Northern Ireland.

And, in the end, it was a 17-year-old Japanese woman who won. A 17-year-old player who overcame a shocking double bogey to get the par on the 18 twice for victory at America's most famous course.

"I cannot describe what is happening to me," Kajitani said in tears to an interpreter. "

“I can't really imagine when I'll be back in Japan,” said Kajitani, “but I hope everyone will be happy and enjoy, I can't wait to go back to Japan. "
