At 29, Hideki Matsuyama won his 8th PGA Tour title. Thanks to a card of 63 (-7) this Sunday, and a sublime eagle in the play-off, he won against Russell Henley and won the Sony Open.

For this second consecutive week in Hawaii, the Waialae Country Club crowned the Japanese Hideki Matsuyama. Author of a solid weekend, the winner of the Masters 2021 did not sign any bogey on his last two laps. His two 63 (-7) on Saturday and Sunday, allowed him to win a play-off against Russell Henley.

After a go in -6 (four birdies for an eagle) and five strokes ahead to attack the return, we thought the American untouchable. Unfortunately for him, his putting will not make him return any putt, eight pars for a bogey on his return. Both men end the regular tournament at -23.

The victory would therefore be decided in the play-off on hole 18. Hideki Matsuyama finds the fairway on the face-off while his opponent's ball ends up in the bunker. The Japanese, 276 yards from the hole, probably made the shot of the tournament, depositing his shot 80 cm from the hole. He tucks in the putt to sign an eagle, leaving his opponent no chance.

This victory allows the Japanese to return to the world top 10: he goes from 19th place to 10th place in the world.

Paul Barjon made his recovery during this week after having worked on his game for a long time. He once again passed the Cut to finish in 44th place at -8. The former resident of the Kornferry Tour only returned one card over par this week, during the moving day, the fault of two double bogeys. On the par 70 of the Waialae Country Club, he returned cards of 66-68-71-67.
