Luke Donald will be the captain of Team Europe in Rome in 2023. On waivers with Henrik Stenson during the first selection, the Englishman was quite logically chosen after the ousting of the Swede winner of The Open, to lead the European team. .

The Englishman is a player who made an impression in the Ryder Cup but also during his individual career. Although he never won a major tournament (his best result was third place at Augusta in 2005), Luke Donald remained world number 1 for a total of 56 weeks. In 2011, he signed his best season with four victories, six podiums and ten top 10s: he finished world number 1 in the 2011 season.

With Team Europe, he won four Ryder Cups as a player and was part of the miracle of Medinah in 2012. He also has a positive record as he scored 10,5 out of a possible 15 points. He also won the Ryder Cup alongside Thomas Bjorn as vice-captain in 2018.
