The European Tour and the French Golf Federation jointly announce today the postponement of the French Open, under the patronage of Grégory Havret, whose organization was scheduled from May 6 to 9, 2021, at the Golf National, in Saint-Quentin en Yvelines.

The move follows last week's announcements by President Emmanuel Macron regarding new measures being taken to stem the spread of COVID-19 across France. The European Tour and the ffgolf will continue to work together in order to find a postponement date for the French Open, in the 2021 calendar.

The organization of any European Tour event involves the displacement of hundreds of people (players, caddies, audiovisual production staff, organizers, officials, media) going to the competition site, from more than 25 different countries. Given the current health situation in France, it is in a spirit of responsibility that the European Tour and the ffgolf have decided to postpone the organization of the tournament.

Keith Pelley, Chief Executive Officer of the European Tour, said: “It is clearly disappointing to have to postpone the French Open, especially after the hard work carried out in collaboration between our teams, those of the ffgolf and the many stakeholders involved. in the organization of the tournament next May. We believe it was the responsible decision that had to be made. "

“We also had tremendous support from tournament ambassador Grégory Havret and the 12 other French players who had signed up to play at Golf National and we will therefore continue to examine all possible options, in the hope to reschedule the tournament later this season.

Pascal Grizot, President of the French Golf Federation, declared: “We have worked closely with the staff of the European Tour in recent months. Thanks to this constant involvement, we have managed to overcome many obstacles. However, despite this, we believe that in the current health context, it is neither reasonable nor responsible to organize the event in May. We will continue to work hand in hand with the European Tour in order to try to find an alternative date for the French Open, which could allow us to welcome spectators and partners in the best conditions.

At the same time, the European Tour is examining all possible options in an attempt to fill the now vacant slot from May 6 to 9 on the European professional golf calendar.
