Absent for two years now from the European Tour calendar, the French Open will make its comeback in 2022. The last edition dates back to 2019, with a victory for Belgian Nicolas Colsaerts. It is the oldest national Open in Continental Europe, it first saw the light in 1906.

Keith Pelley, Director of the European Tour confessed that: “The French Open, which is one of our historic tournaments, has been sorely missed for the past two years, so we are delighted to announce its return to our calendar in 2022. ”.

Our national Open is therefore re-registered on the European Tour calendar for three years and will see its endowment doubled in 2022, from 1,5 million euros in the 2019 edition, to 3 million euros.

The tournament will be played at the same time as the Presidents Cup, an international competition between the top twelve Americans and the top twelve internationals. Pascal Grizot affirmed that: “Playing the French Open at the same time as the Presidents Cup is not a problem because the doubts best Americans and the best twelve internationals would not have had the French Open in their calendar. "

The president of the French Golf Federation said he was very happy to see our national tournament back on the European circuit calendar:

“I am very happy that the French Open is back on the European Tour calendar in 2022. I have always recalled my very strong attachment and that of the Federation to our tournament. He's coming back on a great date. It is also another reason for satisfaction. I would like to thank Keith Pelley and the European Tour with which we work hand in hand and with a common objective: to reinstate the French Open on a lasting basis among the major tournaments in Europe ”
