From Wednesday 8 to Saturday 11 April, the Golf du Médoc Hôtel & Spa will host the 79e edition of the Grand Prix Schweppes PGA France. With 104 euros in prize money, a beautiful plateau is expected on the superb Châteaux course, in the heart of the Médoc vineyards. 000 entries including 108 women will try to succeed François Calmels and Marion Ricordeau, crowned last year.

20150403_GrandPrixScheppes_01Since 2009, when it was relaunched by PGA France Players under the leadership of its president Raphaël Jacquelin, the Grand Prix Schweppes PGA France has once again become one of the important events in French golf. In 2015, it will be held like every year the second week of April at the golf course of the Médoc Hotel & Spa, not far from Bordeaux. This historic event, created in 1928, has the particularity of bringing together a field of mixed players, since 10 of the 108 registered are women. Some of the best golfers in France will therefore compete on the 6574m des Châteaux, a course designed by the American architect Bill Coore in 1989.

As usual, some of the best French people will be present, starting with Alexander Levy. The current number 2 tricolor had finished 3e tied last year, behind winner François Calmels and runner-up Gary Stal. Building on this fine performance, he won the Volvo China Open a fortnight later, the first of his two successes on the European Tour in 2014. Not qualified for the Masters, which will take place in Augusta the same week, the Provençal will honor the Grand Prix Schweppes PGA with its status of 57e world player. He will nevertheless have a lot to face his colleagues on the European circuit Grégory Bourdy (winner of the event in 2011 and 2013), Grégory Havret and Julien Quesne, who will play at home since all three train at the Medoc golf course. Other members of the European Tour will also be present: Raphaël Jacquelin, the ambassador of the event, and young people Benjamin Hébert, Édouard Espana and Jérôme Lando-Casanova. Among the ladies, Marion Ricordeau will be there to defend her title, and will notably meet her colleagues from the Ladies European Tour Jade Schaeffer and Cassandra Kirkland.

A report of the day will be broadcast every evening at 20:12 pm on France 3 in the program “The image of the day”.
