After a hotly contested bidding process, the final decision was won by Scotland against an equally attractive offer from Sweden, which offered Bro Hof Slott Golf Club.

Earlier this year, ten countries including Denmark, England, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Scotland, Spain, Sweden, Turkey and Wales applied to host the Solheim Cup 2019.

Following official site inspections visits to Gleneagles and Bro Hof Slott, the Ladies European Tour (LET) assessment committee this week presented its recommendations to the LET Council for ratification.

Ivan Khodabakhsh, CEO of the Ladies European Tour said: “I would like to congratulate the Scottish bid team for their work. It was an extremely difficult decision and our sincere thanks to our friends in Sweden for their very impressive offer. The Bro Hof Slott Golf Club is one of the very beautiful courses in Europe and we look forward to working with them in the future.

“The competitive nature of the bidding process for the 2019 event is a testament to the growing interest in professional women's golf and women's sport in general. The Solheim Cup has grown to become the largest women's golf event and provide exceptional visibility to its partners at local, national and international level " .

The Ladies European Tour Council voted in favor of Scotland, The Right Honorable Nicola Sturgeon, MSP First Minister of Scotland, said: “This is great news, not only for golf tourism and events in Scotland, but for the whole of Scotland. As a nation, we are very proud to host the world's largest women 's golf team event in our country.

“The outstanding achievement of 2014 will be remembered and I am delighted that Gleneagles and Scotland is once again hosting a major international golf event. It will help cement Scotland's reputation as the birthplace of golf and the perfect stadium for major golf events, and finally inspire a new generation of children to take ownership of the game invented in their home country.

The Scottish bid, which was led by the EventScotland team within VisitScotland's Events Directorate and supported by the Scottish Government, was presented in August and received enormous support from stars in golf, sport and medias.

John A. Chairman and CEO of Ping, commented: “I am delighted that the Solheim Cup is back in Scotland, on the course of the first European victory.

Gleneagles is certainly one of the prestigious golf courses and will provide a wonderful experience for all. I am sure that the 2019 Solheim Cup team members will be in place to meet the challenges of this exceptional course. "
