This 28th edition, where art, nature & luxury coexist in a perfect alchemy will also reveal 3 exhibitions within the show:

  • A refined eulogy of nature around the original and historical drawings of the Chaumet house, whose exhibition curatorship is entrusted to the famous botanist Marc Jeanson, responsible for the collections of the National Herbarium at the National Museum of Natural History in Paris, co-organizer and scientific co-responsible since 2012 of the Botanical Meetings of Varengeville and one of the pillars of the magnificent “Gardens” exhibition presented at the Grand Palais in 2017. From the documentary study to the sketch of a tiara, a front of a bodice or a brooch, from the initial project to the gouache, sometimes iridescent stones that are intended for the creation of the jewel, “Dess (e) in de nature” reveals the accuracy and the poetry with which the designers observed nature and managed to transcribe it.

“From the bas-reliefs by Karnak to the cut-out papers by Henri Matisse, plant shapes and architecture have always been a major source of inspiration for artists. " - Marc Jeanson

  • The works of the nominees for the 12th Contemporary Drawing Prize of the Daniel & Florence Guerlain Foundation.
  • And, at the start of its reopening scheduled for 2019, the Carnavalet Museum exhibition “Festivals and shows in Paris” which gives a glimpse of the great wealth of its collection of drawings.

Without forgetting, La Semaine du dessin, the out-of-walls course of the drawing fair, which will exceptionally open the graphic art cabinets of 20 of our largest museums & institutions (Decorative Arts, the Center Pompidou, Le Louvre, the Petit Palais, Hunting & Nature Museum, Emile Hermes private collection, Domaine de Chantilly ...)

Paris, world capital of drawing

In the extremely competitive market of art shows and fairs, the Salon du dessin, created 28 years ago, has made Paris the world capital of drawing. Every year, during the last week of March, all museum curators, collectors and amateurs are in Paris to preview the latest finds from handpicked dealers. Auction houses take the opportunity to organize sales of drawings, and many museums set the dates of their exhibitions according to those of the Salon, and luxury houses such as Chaumet are exhibiting there for the second time in a row.

A market that looks good…

The year begins with a drawing by Ingres awarded more than one million euros to Saint Valéry en Caux on January 1, 2019 (expert Cabinet de Bayser). Louis de Bayser, young President of the Show, will be quite willing to comment on the state of the market.

Louis de Bayser, President of the Salon du dessin since 2014, Jean-Marc Mansvelt, Managing Director of Chaumet, Marc Jeanson, Daniel and Florence Guerlain who have presented the prize for contemporary drawing to the Salon for 10 years and exhibit their three laureates there, or even Pierre Rosenberg, President of the International Meetings of the Drawing Fair, can testify to this international French success.
