After several weeks in limbo, the PGA Tour has finally decided and refuses to allow its players to take part in the LIV Golf Invitational in London, the first tournament of the "LIV Golf Invitational Series 2022". The DP World Tour followed suit and announced its disagreement with European Tour players traveling to London.

This Tuesday, the PGA Tour rejected requests from players wishing to participate in the LIV Golf Invitational in London. This decision comes suddenly since it had been decided that a request had to be made before the tournament by the players, to be authorized to play the circuit of Greg Norman. The PGA Tour would consider that this event in London would be part of “Series” events (like the Rolex Series on the DP WORLD Tour) and that it would not be a one-time event.

“We have received and observed your request for permission to participate in an event which is the LIV Golf Invitational London, which is scheduled the same week as the RBC Canadian Open. The commissioner (Jay Monahan) denied this request […].

The Commissioner assesses all requests for release based on their individual circumstances.
However, Rule V of the Rules makes it clear that TOUR members are not permitted to request or receive waivers for conflicting events held in North America (the London tournament being opposed to the RBC Canadian Open) […].

Although waivers have been granted in limited circumstances for events outside of North America, the event for which you requested a waiver is the first in a series of eight LIV Golf Invitational Series 2022 events. Therefore, your participation in the event is not permitted by the Rules. »

The DP World Tour, according to the Telegraph, followed the PGA Tour and Jay Monahan in refusing to allow its players to take part in Greg Norman's tournament in London. This announcement could not be more logical, the PGA Tour and the DP WORLD Tour having the desire to strengthen their alliance for a few months.

These announcements do not suit the former Australian world number 1 who was virulent following his announcements, he describes the PGA Tour as: "anti-golfer, anti-fan and anti-competition", "perpetuates its illegal monopoly ".
The white shark, however, claims that his fight will not stop, that the players are independent contractors, and that the Towers are not within their rights to ban players from participating in outside events.

“Unfortunately, the PGA Tour seems to want to deprive professional golfers of their right to play golf, unless it is exclusively in a PGA Tour tournament. It's particularly disappointing about the PGA Tour, whose mission is supposedly to "promote the common interests of professional tournament golfers."

Instead, the Tour intends to perpetuate its illegal monopoly on what should be a free and open market. The Tour's actions are anti-golfer, anti-fan, and anti-competitive. But no matter what obstacles the PGA Tour puts in our way, we won't stop.
We will continue to provide players with options that promote the great game of golf. »
