A year after the success of Beth Allen, the first of an American in the tournament, the Lacoste Ladies Open de France trophy remains in the United States. Unsurprisingly, it was presented this Sunday afternoon to Cristie Kerr, leader since the first round, and finally winner with a total of 263 strokes, or 17 under par. Author of cards of 62, 64, 68 and 69, the Californian won with four strokes ahead of China's Xi Yu Lin, who made an excellent 64 (-6) on this last round, and nine on the Spaniard Azahara Munoz (69, -1), winner in 2013 and 2014.

But beyond her impressive performance in the game, the former world number 1 was arguably one of her most touching successes. Personally involved in the fight against cancer through her Birdies for Breast Cancer foundation created in 2003, the player with 19 career titles on the LPGA Tour did not fail to dedicate her victory to Cassandra Kirkland, the French golfer who died last April. lung cancer, and a loved one who disappeared on Tuesday in the United States. “I played for myself, but mostly I played for them. I really felt like an angel was watching over me this week, ”she said, in tears, receiving the trophy.

On the French side, the nice surprise of the day - and of the week - came from Agathe Sauzon, brilliant 6th thanks to an excellent card of 63 (-7) during this last round. The 25-year-old native of Valencia notched the best result of her young career on the Ladies European Tour after a game punctuated by five birdies and an eagle. “All of my game was good today, as on the first three laps I had either the driving, the irons, or the putting that went awry. I didn't necessarily see myself finishing in the top 10 before the start of the tournament. It's a great reward to end up like this, ”she said. Just behind Sauzon, who finished at -6 overall, two other Habs took 9th place in the event at -5: Céline Herbin, winner of the 2015 edition, and Valentine Derrey.
