20160304_Tunisia_SalonDuGolf_99Since the end of the 70s, Tunisia has grasped the major stake of golf tourism. Little by little, it has equipped all of its tourist centers (Tabarka, the coasts of Carthage, Hammamet, Sousse-Monastir, Tozeur and Djerba) with high quality golf courses, in order to establish itself as one of the major destinations in the practice of this sport on the southern shore of the Mediterranean. If this niche market suffers like other sectors from the drop in tourist attendance observed for 4 years in Tunisia, golfing activity remains nonetheless active and attractive. Just like the Tabarka golf course, currently in the final phase of renovation which will reopen its doors next May or with regard to the many international competitions which will take place on the Tunisian greens in 2016. This will be the case for the next European Alps Tour which will take place in April at the Port-El Kantaoui golf course near Sousse or the Tunisia Open Green 2016 between Tunis and Hammamet next May. The practice of golf therefore remains strongly anchored in the sporting and tourist activity of the country which notably hosted in the 2000s on three occasions the famous Senior European Tour where successive world-renowned players such as Sam Torrance or Lilia Maaref during the European Women's Tour. For its part, the Tunisian national golf team has imposed itself for ten years, despite limited resources, at the Arab and African levels, with more than encouraging results.

Golf & wellness

One of Tunisia's strengths is to benefit over a relatively small area from a wide variety of routes. Tabarka, for example, recalls the South-West of France with its forests of tall pines and its cliffs overlooking the sea, while Hammamet and Sousse are more like the South of Spain with more rugged routes. Tozeur, at the gateway to the desert, and Djerba are extremely flat with vegetation mainly made up of palm trees. The Monastir course is set around a century-old olive grove. For about three decades, Tunisia has also acquired a solid reputation in the field of golf and well-being. The country very quickly established itself as a leading destination for thalassotherapy and spas with the launch of around fifty establishments which meet international standards and which are for the most part located on golf courses. exceptional. The importance of golf in Tunisia therefore no longer needs to be demonstrated. Proof of this is the construction of an 18-hole built by the French Michel Gayon in Tunis, the opening of which is scheduled for 2018 or the emergence of many projects on the sites of Hammamet, Sousse or even Djerba, which counts thus consolidating its position as a leading destination on the international market.
