Located on the famous Riceys terroir in the Aube, Champagne Gremillet has the particularity of being still an exclusively family house today. Created and managed by Jean-Michel Gremillet, it is the first plot donated by his mother Lulu in 1978 which will encourage this former employee of the EDF to develop the operation. Today, the whole family (children and stepchildren) participate in the brand's activity. Composed of 40 ha of vines including 17 ha on the hills of Riceys, the Gremillet house is located in the town of Balnot-sur-Laignes just 45 km from Troyes. The house produces 500 bottles per year, 000% of which are exported and 60% in France for a traditional clientele made up of hoteliers, wine merchants and individuals. Its cuvées, like its “brut selection”, are regularly rewarded by the biggest wine competitions and selected each year by 40 embassies and consulates around the world (Tunisia, Ethiopia, Congo, Serbia, Czech Republic, Senegal, Laos, Romania, Norway, Poland). Renowned establishments such as: the Elysée Palace, the Biblos in St Tropez, the Shangri-La Hotel in Bangkok or the Regent Hotel in Taiwan have made it a reference. “To give even more importance to our house, two years ago we created a one and a half hectare clos which brings together the three appellations. We named it Clos Rocher after one of our ancestors who placed a stone in 1855 on a house in the village and which we were able to recover ” explains Jean-Michel Grémillet. On this surface blessed by the gods, planted in pinot noir, surrounded by low walls, facing south, southeast, the Gremillet family plans to develop the flagship of its range in 2017.

The brut rosé, a summer cuvée

Adjacent to his Clos Rocher, Jean-Michel as a good father builder had the original idea of creating an arboretum made up of 82 conifers from the countries in which Champagne Gremillet is consumed today. "It is a tribute to all these nations who trust us today throughout the world" says he. A little further on, at the top of the frail hill, a cadole with a plunging and panoramic view of the vineyard, now welcomes customers for tasty tastings. These former shacks of the Aube vineyards in Champagne and Southern Burgundy, built of dry stone and originally smaller, served as shelters for winemakers in case of hot weather or bad weather. Subtle and refined, the rosé champagne from the house of Gremillet (70% pinot noir, 30% chardonnay), invites this summer to a unique experience. Elegant, it presents a splendid salmon color and its delicate accents of aromas of red and black fruits bursting with sun (strawberry, raspberry, blackberry, blackcurrant, morello cherry and redcurrant) offer a delicious finish. A marvelous brut rosé champagne that will accompany summer salads, grilled plancha and shellfish as much as a salad of fresh fruit. "I wanted the rosé version of our brut without year whose composition creates, in my opinion, the most beautiful blend" recalls Jean-Christophe Gremillet, cellar master.

Participation in the Champagne Route

The house of Champagne Gremillet is pleased to participate for the first time in the Route du Champagne, the 20e edition will take place on August 1 and 2 at Les Riceys. Imagined by the Aube winegrowers in 1995, it aims to raise awareness of the Aube department in Champagne. The Champagne Route aims to invite the general public, tourists and walkers to a festive escape to discover wine tourism. A meeting that will allow you to get together with your family for a fun and convivial weekend to discover the 23 champagne houses which will be celebrating thanks to numerous events and tastings. The idea is to move from house to house, to have fun, dance, eat, stroll and of course taste in moderation and in good humor this exceptional wine, whose quality is matched only by the delicacy of its bubbles ...

The creation of reservoirs on the Seine, upstream of Paris has made it possible to develop new tourism in the Aube, focused on nature and ornithology. This also led to the design of this course on these lands. Near Troyes, Jean-Manuel Rossi knew how to take advantage of the generosity of nature to draw a varied, fun and selective route between the plains and a few bodies of water, hosts of many birds. In the morning mists, at a time when the coots, swans and even a few storks snort on the banks, the course is magnificent while waiting for the sun.
