Jin Young Ko was two shots behind at the start of the day at the HSBC Women's World Championship, but she got off to a good start with a first birdie before making two more on holes seven and eight.

She finally managed two new birdies on her last three holes at the Sentosa Golf Club in Singapore.

Yang also had a 67 card, with seven birdies and two bogeys, putting him in contention for his fifth LPGA win.

The leaders hold a one-shot lead over Canadian Brooke Henderson, American Megan Khang and Thai Atthaya Thitikul after the trio came back to 68 to tie third place.

Although she took the lead, Ko – who won five times on the LPGA Tour last year – said she was not “not really satisfied”.

“My swing was very different on the front nine, and I thought I played better on the back nine”, she said. "I don't know if it was a mental thing or if I needed to warm up more before the start of the lap".

“I just wanted to make more birdies than yesterday”, said the South Korean, who had scored her first round with six birdies, a double-bogey and a bogey.

Yang, who finished tied for 12th in the tournament last year, is focused on trying to stay relaxed for the rest of the tournament. “I want to keep it simple and not think too much”, she said.

“There are things you can't control on the golf course, and what I can only do is really prepare well for every shot”.

The previous day's leader, Thailand's Patty Tavatanakit, struggled to make a 74, slipping a share of 21st, five shots behind the leaders of the $1,7 million tournament.

By returning both a card of 72 (par) during the second round this Friday, Perrine Delacour and Céline Boutier fell a few places on the leaderboard. The two French women present in Singapore are respectively 26th and 43rd.
