For her first tournament on the LET, England's Alice Hewson won the Investec South African Open, in Westlake. Very good performance of the French Manon Gidali and Agathe Sauzon, respectively 4e and 7e.

A tournament definitely like no other. While the planet has almost stopped spinning due to the coronavirus and most athletes are technically unemployed, the South African Open came to an end this Saturday, near Cape Town. It was the young Englishwoman Alice Hewson who, for her first tournament on the LET, won the bet with a stroke of lead over the local Monique Smit and the Swedish Emma Nilsson. A real feat for the young 22-year-old woman, still on her cloud at a press conference: “I couldn't have asked for better, it's amazing, a dream come true. The feeling is indescribable. Kid, I dreamed of playing on the Ladies European Tour, but I never imagined winning for my first tournament! "

A scenario worthy of a Hollywood movie, since the tournament was played on the last hole. After a drive lost under a tree, Alice Hewson struck a branch on her second shot, her ball even coming back a few yards back. A magnificent third shot allowed him to finish a good two meters from the flag. Her putt for the returned par was synonymous with a historic victory for the Englishwoman. The big loser of the day is Germany's Olivia Cowan, who had a three-stroke lead at dawn of 3e and last lap, and which had never been so close to securing its first success on the LET. A card of 77 with five bogeys without any birdies downgraded him to 7e final place.

Two French women ended the tournament in style. Manon Gidali is one of the only three players to have returned today a card of 69, on the difficult course of Westlake (only 14 players finish under the par in three laps) and finish with a nice 4e place, even missing the podium at the last minute because of the birdie managed by Emma Nilsson at 18. A very good day also for Agathe Sauzon, author of the second best score of the day with a card of 70. The 28-year-old Drômoise is in good shape , since it remained on a 12e place at the NSW Open, in Australia two weeks ago.
