Her thumb injury, which kept her off the fairways for much of the year, has worsened since the Rio Olympics.

Inbee Park, winner of the Evian Masters 2012, talks about his disappointment:

“I am extremely disappointed to tell you that I will not be able to participate in the Evian Championship this year. With all of my priceless memories in Evian-les-Bains, this was an incredibly difficult decision for me to make.

After winning the gold medal at the Rio 2016 Olympics a few weeks ago, I focused intensely on recovering from my left thumb injury. The Evian Championship means so much to me and I really wanted to see the beautiful Evian Resort Golf Club once again and compete to win.

Unfortunately, my left thumb injury needs more time. Last week I had to put on a cast to immobilize my thumb and recovery is potentially expected for the weeks following the Evian Championship. As a result, I will be unable to play in this year's championship and will focus on fully recovering from the injury and making every effort to be back on the greens as soon as possible. "
