Greater Palm Springs: among the most beautiful courses in California!
Greater Palm Springs, a golfing hotspot in the western United States, represents the largest concentration of courses in the world. No less than 120 greens punctuate the landscapes, from Palm Springs to Indio. This oasis also hosts the Professional Golf Association and Ladies Professional Golf Association tournaments each year.
The history of professional golf in the Coachella Valley dates back to the 11th Ryder Cup, played at the Thunderbird Country Club in 1955. The global appeal of desert golf (and celebrities) brought various tournaments to Greater Palm Springs, such as the Skin's Game & Battle in Bighorn. Even today, the craze continues, with the PGA Tour's Career Builder Challenge, the LPGA's Ana Inspiration and the PGA Qualifying School.
Professional golf championships have been held on a dozen courses in the region. Here are some of the old championship courses open to the public, which has more than 100:
- The Classic Club in Palm Desert
- SilverRock Resort in La Quinta
- TPC Stadium Course at PGA West in La Quinta
- Jack Nicklaus Signature Course at PGA West at La Quinta
- Terra Lago in Indio
- Indian Wells Golf Resort in Indian Wells
To perfect their swing, other legendary and unmissable courses are available to golfers in the 9 cities of Greater Palm Springs and allow you to follow in the footsteps of the greatest professionals:
Pete Dye where four of the nine courses at La Quinta Resort & Club & PGA West as well as plans for the Mission Hills Country Club and the Westin Mission Hills Golf Resort are signed by this prolific designer.
Nick Faldo's Marriott's Shadow Ridge in Palm Desert was voted 75th "Best Resort Course" by Golfweek.
John Fought took over the old "East Course" from Indian Wells and designed "The Players Course", voted by Golfweek 7th "Best Municipal Course".
The Greg Norman course at PGA West offers 24 hectares of tight fairways punctuated by nine ponds, challenging players of all skill levels.
Arnold Palmer: This golfing legend has designed many courses in the area, such as the Mountain View Country Club, the Tradition Golf Club, the SilverRock Resort and the Palmer Course PGA West in La Quinta and many more…
Ted Robinson has put his signature to the Kings of Waterscapes, a course characterized by its water hazards at Rancho Las Palmas Country Club and JW Marriott Desert Springs.
The Lee Schmidt and Brian Curley duo designed the North and South courses of the Indio Golf Club at Terra Lago d'Indio.
The course signed by Gary Player at the Westin Mission Hills Golf Resort & Spa is one of the resort's two championship courses, each offering a unique experience to challenge fans of the sport.
Finally, the private golf course signed by Tom Weiskopf at PGA West is the only one that he has done in Greater Palm Springs and is nevertheless one of the favorites among connoisseurs.
