The ranking was established by a team of international experts, which was expanded this year to include specialists from each European country, with the aim of making the list as fair and accurate to date.

More than half of the 20 eligible European destinations located in continental Europe are on the list of famous destinations, including the three Quinta do Lago courses in Portugal and the 2018 Ryder Cup course at the National Golf in France.

Also featured in the Golf World supplement is the 'The Next 100' list which displays close contenders whom the jury deems easily fit into the next ranking. This list included six other European Tour Destinations routes across the continent.
