"This is the first time that I had the immense privilege of being a captain", says Laura Davies. “It's not like being captain of the Solheim Cup, it's much more relaxed” “I wasn't interested in being captain of a Solheim Cup, but this is different. As game leaders, you put your team in battle order and it's important for me to have fun ”

Davies intends to inspire his daughters through her first round with Melissa Reid for the first four-ball game against Ayaka Watanabe of Japan and Erika Kikuchi at 9am local time on Friday.

"I like to start there first, so that, Mel and I 'well I hope' can win our game quickly and then go out to support the others," she said, adding, "I don't really need to. motivation or anyone on our team for that matter. If you are there, you will naturally want to give the best of yourself ”.

The tournament format includes eight fourballs for day one, eight foursomes for day two and 18 singles matches for day three. Scoring will be done by a point system and each match is worth three points to the winning team.

If a match ends in a tie after 18 holes, one point will be awarded to each team.

"I hold the system because I think it will go down on Sunday afternoon for the last three matches", said Davies. "It's hard to know ahead of time what the score will be for the first year, but I guess 11 or 12 points, maybe 13."

“I think if we could get five of the eight points in the first two laps we'll take a good option for the win. "
