After five years without success, Clément Sordet tasted victory again by winning the SDC Open, a Challenge Tour event in South Africa. Author of a last day in 67 (-5), he grabbed a play-off against local Ruan Conradie, a duel from which he emerged victorious thanks to a birdie from the first play-off hole.

Since 2017 and his victory at the NBO Golf Classic, Clément Sordet had strayed from the podiums and from victory. His week in South Africa started well with a superb 64 (-8), a bogey for five birdies and two eagles. The former Texas Tech University player then returned cards of 66 (-6) and 70 (-2), which put him three shots behind the leader before the last day.

After a go on Sunday in -2, four birdies for two bogeys, the former winner of the Mirabelle d'Or signs three birdies in a row on holes 14, 15 and 16, and takes the leadership of the tournament. The South African Ruan Conradie also benefits from a return of fire in -4, to point to -21 total alongside Clément Sordet.

The Saturday night leader, Deon Germishuys, misses the opportunity to join this play-off, the fault of a bogey on hole 17, followed by a simple par on par 5 of hole 18.

The two leaders therefore headed for tee 18, and the play-off turned in favor of the Frenchman from the first hole: a 4 synonymous with birdie and victory for the French.

This title in South Africa allows Clément Sordet to add a fifth line to his record of victory on the Challenge Tour. He also made a big jump in the world rankings, going from 691 to 348th in the world.
