Callaway Golf yesterday presented its new line of MAVRIK drivers, fairway woods and irons. By investing in a new, more powerful supercomputer, Callaway's R&D team improved its ability to use artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning to design far-reaching performance features and technologies integrated across the range. MAVRIK.

MAVRIK Drivers

MAVRIK drivers feature Callaway's new Artificial Intelligence-engineered Flash Face SS20 architecture with a larger area that delivers blazing-fast ball speeds in conjunction with Callaway's proven Jailbreak technology. The face of each driver model is designed to work with each head's individual specifications - size, shape, center of gravity location, footprint, internal weighting - to maximize strike distance. The complexity of each Flash Face SS20's design requires a new, stronger material - FS2S titanium - to allow the ultra-thin design to withstand the stresses of impact, allowing MAVRIK drivers to maintain fast ball speed without compromise the integrity of the club face.

Callaway engineers did not limit the use of artificial intelligence to the club face. For the first time, they used it to create a new system of internal ribs designed to more effectively control impact vibrations to promote a more satisfying sound and feel. The Callaway Tour Staff pros who tested and provided feedback during the development of the MAVRIK driver unanimously praised the sound and feel.

In addition, MAVRIK drivers use several proven technologies that are crucial for overall performance - Jailbreak and a T2C triaxial carbon crown. Jailbreak technology features two internal bars that connect the sole and crown to promote faster ball speed, and the T2C carbon triaxial crown is significantly lighter to increase center of gravity and forgiveness.

MAVRIK fairway woods have a unique Flash Face, designed by artificial intelligence. for each loft, which is precisely tuned to work specifically with the size, shape, location of the center of gravity of that particular head to promote the optimum combination of speed and spin to improve distance. The face material is made of C300 maraging steel for added strength and resilience.

Artificial intelligence has also helped improve the Fairway Wood Face Cup, which is designed to deliver speed across the face. Callaway's proven Jailbreak technology increases the distance to each point of impact using two internal bars that connect the crown and sole. Jailbreak technology stabilizes and stiffens these two parts, allowing the face to work more efficiently.

Three MAVRIK fairway and driver wood models: Standard, Sub Zero and MAX

To give an option to every type of player, MAVRIK drivers and fairway woods are available in a Standard model that caters to a wide range of players, a Sub Zero model that offers a remarkable combination of fast ball speed, low spin and high moment of inertia, and a MAX model that combines extremely easy launch with slice-fighting weight distribution.

MAVRIK fairway drivers and lumber will be available in retail in Europe from 23th January 2020.

MAVRIK hybrids

As with fairway woods, Callaway has relied on artificial intelligence to develop a different face design for each MAVRIK Hybrid loft to promote an optimal combination of speed, launch angle and spin speed in each. club. This, combined with a high moment of inertia and optimized center of gravity locations, gives each MAVRIK Hybrid an extraordinary combination of easy launch, fast ball speed and long distance. In addition, these are the first Callaway hybrids to feature a fully optimized Flash Face, which is more apt to deliver fast ball speed over an exceptionally large area.

MAVRIK hybrid models: Three for men, one for women

The main differences between MAVRIK Hybrid models are size and shape. The Standard model is medium in size, with a square end, designed to blend in with any iron set. The MAX is similar in shape to the Standard Hybrid, but it has a larger body and deeper center of gravity, which creates a higher moment of inertia for more forgiveness. The Pro has a compact fairway wood-shaped head with a cambered sole. This promotes a type of neutral ball flight preferred by top players and Tour pros. A female model MAVRIK Hybrid is available, the MAX-W.

MAVRIK Hybrids will be available for retail in Europe from 6th February 2020.

MAVRIK irons

For the first time, these new irons feature a Flash Face Cup designed by artificial intelligence to work with the size, shape, center of gravity location and loft designation of each head to promote distance and control throughout the set, creating a significant increase in ball speed. But that's only part of the whole technology. Callaway's proven Tungsten Energy Core technology optimizes performance with custom tungsten weights, precisely positioned in the head, to optimize launch and trajectory.

Callaway has also included patented urethane microspheres, its cutting edge technology that creates unparalleled feel and incredible speed. Over a million microspheres are strategically placed in each club head to absorb unwanted vibrations while maximizing Coefficient of Restitution. The result is an unparalleled combination of fast ball speed and phenomenal feel throughout the set.

The use of artificial intelligence has also enabled Callaway to improve the performance characteristics of each iron face. In the long irons the faces are designed for hit and speed, while in the medium irons the faces are designed for speed and regularity of spin. Finally, in the short irons, the faces are optimized for spin and precision in order to promote accurate shots.

MAVRIK irons: Three for men, one for women

MAVRIK irons are available in three models, Standard, Pro and MAX. The Standard model offers an excellent combination of size, speed, tolerance, feel, distance and control. The Pro model is designed to attract the best players, with a compact head, a thinner sole and toe line and minimal offset, which facilitates the shaping of shots and promotes different trajectories. MAX irons combine the largest head size with an extremely low center of gravity, making them remarkably easy to hit on a long, long trajectory. A model of MAVRIK irons for women is available, the MAX-W.

MAVRIK irons will be available for retail in Europe from 6th February 2020.

A rebellious and disruptive spirit

"We have consciously adopted the rebellious and disruptive spirit of a maverick to help us in our search for more efficient equipment"said Dr. Alan Hocknell, vice president of R&D at Callaway. “The use of artificial intelligence is a great example of this approach. Since we started using artificial intelligence to help us design better golf equipment, we've come to understand its capabilities and power better. This has allowed us to create new innovative features and technologies, like those of MAVRIK equipment, that defy convention and promote performance that exceeds golfers' expectations. As we enter a new decade, we are confident in our ability to use artificial intelligence to continue to push the boundaries through innovation ”.
