A half-burnt sack, a play-off played with trembling

"When I saw that the master caddy was on fire, I said to myself that it was over, that my bag and my cubs would be burnt completely…" We are on June 24 at the Czech Republic Open, near Prague. Agathe Sauzon is one of the players who left their bags at the clubhouse between the second and third rounds.

The fire caught at dawn. There are firefighters and thick black smoke. Once the disaster is under control, the situation is confused. Girls whose equipment is covered in soot are asked to go and test the clubs at the practice. At 11 o'clock, the decision was made to play only the three players who were co-leaders after two rounds. The title will be awarded after a play-off. Funny third final round three ...

Clubs cleaned with Coca-Cola and motorcycle polish

Lucie André and the Austrian Nina Muehl were lucky. They had kept their bags at the hotel. Of the three, only Agathe Sauzon will play with clubs that were almost charred. “I cleaned them up and it looked pretty good. But my bag was all black. It stank! It's true that when we attacked the play-off, I was still shaking. "

It is Lucie André who will emerge victorious from the play-off, Agathe taking second place. When we get home (Agathe plays for the Golf des Chanalets, in the Drôme), it will be a cleaning session: “I cleaned the clubs with Coca-Cola for two days. And my dad tried to make things even better with the products he uses for his motorcycle. But the bag, I threw it away! "

Not possible to be helped by an equipment manufacturer ...

The ideal would have been to change equipment altogether. But it's not that simple for a young player who only started on LET in 2016. And who, for lack of being already known, had bought her own clubs (Taylor Made except wedges) .

“I tried calling Taylor Made Europe pro service. But apparently there is nothing we can do for me… ”

On the insurance side of Czech golf, no news since June 24.

“Until I can buy myself some equipment, I keep my clubs as they are. They have lost their shiny coating and are dull. And the white tip of my Taylor Made driver has a big smoke stain that does not go away ... But hey, after a test with the Trackman, their qualities do not seem altered ... "

Best Frenchwoman who plays "full time" on LET

Agathe Sauzon is playing for her second season on LET. In the spring at the Lalla Meryem Cup in Morocco, she signed the first top 10 of her young career on LET. A very nice 8th place while the field was good, with for example the presence of Suzann Pettersen, figure of the LPGA and come to Europe in view of the Solheim Cup.

Ex-student at the University of Chattanooga, from which she graduated with an engineering degree in chemistry in 2015, Agathe shone as an amateur in the NCAA. This summer, for her second pro season, she played four LET tournaments and six LETAS tournaments. Above all, she is the best ranked of the French women who play full time on the European circuit (45th in the ranking with four tournaments)!

And this Friday, August 18, she flies to California to compete in Stage I of the American qualifiers at Rancho Mirage. With clubs a little damaged but a nice sacred fire. Respect.
