An essential winter event in Megève, the Winter Golf Cup has once again enchanted lovers of snow golf. At the end of January, on the all-white 9-hole course at the bottom of the Mont d'Arbois slopes, the players experienced a 19th edition rich in emotions. Cinema sun, then snowflake storm ... Winter in all its forms! Philippe Guilhem and Maria Verchenova, the organizers, are already planning an exceptional 20th anniversary throughout the winter of 2020.

Another successful edition! Another BMW Megève Winter Golf Cup full of sporting conviviality and unique moments. Since 2000 and the creation of this golf tournament on snow by Philippe Guilhem, the event has kept its beautiful identity. While each time offering something different, unique. For this 19th meeting, opened on January 24 with the traditional “Megève Trophy” (one-day event with fondue lunch then evening), the sixty participants of the “BMW Winter Golf Cup” (from January 25 to 27 ) will have experienced all that the mountain and winter golf can offer! Cinema decor and radiant sun on Saturday January 26 for a first round in perfect conditions, once the beautiful freshness of the early morning has dissipated. Snowflake storm and Christmas tale landscape on Sunday January 27 for a second round where hats, hoods - and even ski masks for some! - took part in the somewhat heroic practice of a real winter sport. Maria Verchenova, the former number 1 in Russian golf, today ambassador of the Winter Golf Cup and co-organizer with Philippe Guilhem, did not fail, on this very snowy day, to congratulate the valiant soul of all wintergolfeurs.

Holder of the Olympic record on a lap, with a card of 62 during the last Games of 2016 in Rio de Janeiro, Maria Verchenova, who is now withdrawn from the Ladies European Tour, brings her freshness and her knowledge to the Winter Golf Cup. It is she who leads the joyful collective warm-up in music so that nobody plants their first excessively refrigerated tee in the mornings where the mercury drops below 0 ° C. It is she who now welcomes new followers from Russia. Or who brought the Brazilian pro Victoria Lovelady, her friend when she was herself, to Megève.

As for pro players, it was from the Omega Dubai Desert Classic that two figures of the European Tour sent a little hello to the participants and to the organizing team of Planet Events. French Raphaël Jacquelin, a regular at the event from the start in Megève - then in Val d'Isère where he was notably present in 2017 alongside his “colleagues” Havret, Levy, Langasque and Colsaerts -, expressed himself warmly via social networks.

For his part, Thomas Björn, the Captain of the European team victorious in the last Ryder Cup, did not forget his stay in March 2018 in Val d'Isère. Six months before the feat of his "Blues" at the National Golf, the Dane had indeed participated in the 6th edition of the BMW Val d'Isère Winter Golf. With Pascal Grizot, he even brought in the famous Ryder Trophy for a historic photo at the top of the Bellevarde Face… Hence the very friendly video sent to Philippe Guilhem during this 19th "Winter" in Megève: "I have couldn't come this year, but i'll be with you for the 20th in 2020! This video of Thomas Björn, who was filming himself in his hotel room in Dubai, was screened during the superb dinner on Saturday January 26 at the Chalet-Club du Mont d'Arbois. A moment apart. With also, for the participants, a tasting of nine classified Grands Crus of Bordeaux, another new experience on the BMW Megève Winter Golf Cup. Earlier today, the players had already participated in a unique approach competition: with a stroke of the wedge, send a cork to a circle formed on the snow by Bordeaux magnums!

Throughout the weekend, golfers on snow could also meet around an unusual space: that of Nordic baths and Storvatt spas, installed on the snow at the bottom of the slopes of Mont d'Arbois. No improvised swimming in the steaming waters after the course, but the desire was there. Especially after the warm aperitifs offered by this new support of the Winter Golf Cup, a company based in Megève with an authentic and 100% Rhône-Alpine manufacturing.

Storvatt, like Bogner ski and golf clothing, through AAllard in Megève, or even Yon-Ka cosmetics, a pioneering brand in phytotherapy and aromatherapy, therefore joined in 2019 the partners who accompanied the history of the Winter Golf Cup. Among which we find more than ever Les 2 Marmottes (the famous brand of herbal drinks and herbal teas), Taylor Made, Polaris, the Edmond de Rothschild Héritage / Domaine du Mont d'Arbois group and, of course, a ski resort. ski as loyal and active as Megève.

The adventure goes on. All suggestions, ideas or other forms of partner involvement are open for the next decade. See you in 2020 for the surprises of the 20th anniversary!
