Eight times participating in the Solheim Cup, including three times as vice-captain in the last three competitions, Annika takes the reins of the 15th Solheim Cup with the aim of drive Europe to one sixth win in this biennial competition.

The 89-time winner and 10-time major tournament champion has earned 24 points in her eight appearances as a player and holds several Solheim Cup records for Europe. She played in two winning teams, at Loch Lomond in 2000 and Barsebäck in 2003 and was instrumental in two more victories as vice-captain at Killeen Castle in 2011 and Colorado in 2013, respectively under Alison Nicholas and Liselotte Neumann.

"It is an absolute honor to be named captain of the European team of the Solheim Cup 2017"said Annika. “The Solheim Cup was a very important part of my playing career and I have enjoyed working as vice-captain for the last three competitions to prepare for this opportunity. The event has really improved over the last decade and we look forward to representing Europe in Des Moines, a great golf market ”.

Annika was unanimously chosen by a nine-person selection jury made up of the three most recent European Solheim Cup captains - Alison Nicholas, Liselotte Neumann and Carin Koch - as well as the President of the Ladies European Tour (LET) Helena Alterby Nordstrom, General Manager Ivan Khodabakhsh, Player Council President Rebecca Hudson, an additional LET Board member, Solheim Cup European Events Director Dae Ramirez and finally John Clark as the representative of the Solheim family.
